if we eat and drink the body and blood of jesus christ does that make Catholics cannibals?
No.if we eat and drink the body and blood of jesus christ does that make Catholics cannibals?
Is Jesus God? If yes, then is His “body and blood” restricted to human DNA? If he was ONLY a human you could argue His body and blood must be human cells, but since He is NOT ONLY human but also God, His body and blood can be of any substance He chooses can’t it? If Jesus had said this tree is my body and grape juice is my blood I’d be chewing on a toothpick and drinking Welches. Actually hasn’t God shown His physical presence in various forms? Let’s see, He appeared as a bush, towers of smoke and fire, a dove, a lamb, human… So anything God says is His body can be can’t it. So thinking that His body and blood must contain human DNA is not correct. He said the bread was His body, He said the wine was His blood. I have enough faith to believe He is truly physically present, body, blood, soul, and divinity in His consecrated Eucharist.if we eat and drink the body and blood of jesus christ does that make Catholics cannibals?
I actually love this question, because it can lead to such important understanding.if we eat and drink the body and blood of jesus christ does that make Catholics cannibals?
Before beginning this discussion, let me also point out that cannibals don’t eat comedians. They taste funny.I actually love this question, because it can lead to such important understanding.
Let me start by asking, what is wrong with cannibalism? Why is it a bad thing?
I’m just trying to find out, from the OP or anybody else, why they think cannibalism is something bad. Of course I’m not suggesting it is not bad, but we need to lay out the reasons why we (almost all human beings) think it is bad.Okay, more seriously: Are you aiming toward the thought that eating a human body violates the dignity of that which the body houses, namely, a human person? Or something close to that?
Is that joke what they would call a palate-cleanser?Before beginning this discussion, let me also point out that cannibals don’t eat comedians. They taste funny.
NO! We’re Christians doing what we have been told to do by Christ!if we eat and drink the body and blood of jesus christ does that make Catholics cannibals?
LOL.Is that joke what they would call a palate-cleanser?![]()
According to the Roman pagans it seemed to because they said of us that we “eat our god and drown our children.”if we eat and drink the body and blood of Jesus Christ does that make Catholics cannibals?
No. But lets take the claim at what it is. If we are truly cannibals (in the way that those who make this claim are thinking) then that means that we must be truly eating the body, blood, soul and divinity of the lord. If it is just a symbol and the bread remains mere bread, we cannot be cannibals.if we eat and drink the body and blood of jesus christ does that make Catholics cannibals?
Just a point of order here. I think you could, if you consider cannibalism in the moral order and not merely the physical order. You could, for instance, pronounce someone a “meat-eater” because they choose a hamburger, even though it was really, unknown to them, a tofu-burger.You can’t deny the real presence, state that Christ is not present in the Eucharist, and then go onto claim that Catholics are cannibals.

Although, RC, you did use the word “truly” cannibals, so you probably mean both formally and materially a cannibal.
But, I know that’s not really the point of this thread. Just an aside.

I follow you RC. But I think to do justice to the accusation (and thus better refute it) we should admit that the charge of cannibalism in the moral order does not necessarily mean one must aver to the Real Presence, if you see what I mean.VC
Yes I meant physically cannibals. I say this because usually the claim is; Catholics are cannibals, not; Catholics think they are cannibals. At least that has been my experience.
God bless
I guess I don’t see it.I follow you RC. But I think to do justice to the accusation (and thus better refute it) we should admit that the charge of cannibalism in the moral order does not necessarily mean one must aver to the Real Presence, if you see what I mean.
A rabbit hole, of course, but I just thought it interesting.
