Are we really alone in the physical Universe?

Let’s review some “well-known” facts…
  • “visible” Universe is a huge “entity”: it consists of abt. 100.000.000.000 galaxies, each of them having abt. 100.000.000.000 stars.
  • a lot of stars have planets.
  • our Earth is one small planet, located near one middle-size star (our Sun).
If we agree and accept above mentioned facts, one has to raise some questions:

**- Has our God really created such a huge Universe only on account of our small planet and human race?
  • If yes, is everything else created just to confuse unbelievers or has some other purpose?**
    Of course, here we talk about only 4 dimensions: 3 space dimensions and time (as the fourth dimension). These are dimensions that can be “registered” and “comprehend” by human mind…
Please, share your view…
 
that’s why I’m studying SG1 and SGU, to develop a machine that can transport us from one planet to the next. I believe there are multiple universes adjacent to our own and in each universe there is another me. There can only be one in the end. That’s why I carry a sword in my pant legs hidden from view. The only safe place to meet is on holy ground.

Are you not begging a VERY big question here?

…as in…what makes you think all of us believe that God DID create the universe just for the humans on this one tiny planet?
 
Consider this:

Man is in the middle of the largest and smallest distances.

Our solar system is unique (see latest research into exoplanets and orbit rotations)

See fine-tuning of the universe and the effects on life.

We are created in God’s image.

Anthropic coincidences

We are positioned in a unique place to study the heavens.

Good questions, and I’ve wondered about them myself, but I don’t know the answers. Neither science nor divine revelation has told them to me. 🤷

However, my best guess is that we are not alone, that God did create plants, animals, and other sentient beings on other planets. Perhaps also other forms of life that we can’t even imagine. But for some reason, it isn’t part of God’s plan for us to know about them just yet.

ad 1. We cannot know that. Probability says our solar system is not unique at all.
ad 2. Our position in the Universe cannot be superior to so many similar positions in our galaxy, let alone some other galaxies more centrally positioned.

Do you really think that God created such a huge Universe in wain, lifewise??
 
Astrobiologists had a study week at the Pontifical Academy of Science where high profile scientists shared knowledge. Except for the introduction by the Pope, I found it kinda dry but reliable, it’s a Vatican web site.

I personally think that this is like refusing to believe that there is another fir tree on the planet because you haven’t seen the forest yet.

In this case, it’s more like…I believe that there could well be until it is absolutely proven that there are not.

Of course, as a Mormon it’s a kinda ‘hafta,…’ since we have stuff WE accept as scripture that has God straight out TELLING us that He created 'worlds without number…" and people on them. It’s just that at the moment we don’t have to worry about 'em, having enough to deal with screwing up our own little lives and planet.

It is ONE of the reasons I stay a Mormon.

The LDS idea of the universe, it’s origination and present formation march very well indeed with LDS thought. (shrug)

It’s not the biggest reason, of course, but it’s nice to have that happen.

A few things:
  1. Everything that exists, inasmuch as it exists and partakes in the emanated perfections of the Godhead, possesses an intrinsic good in that measure. A sea of acid lapping against a shore of malachite on a distant planet that man will never see (at least in this life) has an intrinsic good regardless of whether we ever see it, or if life ever visits there. It’s good in itself, as a creature of God.
  2. In Beatitude, may God grant that we see Him face to face, we will see the open scheme of all things. I imagine we will see the whole past, present and future of the Cosmos (or Cosmoi, if that’s how it is). As well as all other things, all at once, forever. So don’t grow impatient over it!
  3. If there are presently life forms of whatever kind on other planets, it doesn’t make much difference for us. FTL travel is probably totally impossible. So even if there are other semantically-enabled life forms, meaningful contact is probably out of the question.

Do you think that Jesus is an UNIVERSAL saviour (for all possible worlds/races in existance) ? HE should be that, if we accept the fact that HE is the ONLY GOD’s son…

Maybe GOD’s plan was different before the sin of Adam & Eve, maybe the plan was for each of us to have his/her own planet or paradise, but when Adam & Eve sinned He postponed the plan till the judgement day…
 
I too is also confused about this one because as I read the bible, there are words to describe God as “God of the universe.” We also discussed that on our school and it really is confuse me! Well, if “aliens” really exist, maybe it really is…
 
I believe the physical universe is just that…physical…and therefore finite in scope…all though it is beyond my comprehension to even consider the vast distances it encompasses.

God is infinte and yet many of us believe we have an “in” with Him through our various faith traditions.

Contemplating the physical universe boggles the mind…contemplating the Eternal and Infinite is much more so.

Does life exist elsewhere? I would think so this God we believe in is a God of Life and Creation.

I no longer hold the view that when man “fell” so did the creation…the “fall” is a natural occurance IMO…the LDS view that when man “fell” he “fell up” to me has some merit…we are on a Journey back to the Presence after being so far from Home “slopping pigs”…the Father will run to us one day…all we know of God is seen “through a glass darkly”…we won’t know until we are “face to face…then we shall know…and be known”.

The finite universe and Infinte God contemplations eventually end in Silence for me.

Yep. He was part of the whole universe creation thing, after all. In fact, we believe that it was through Him that the universe was created.

As to why He would come HERE for His experience with mortality, I haven’t a clue. When I start speculating as to reasons why, those I come up with aren’t very complimentary to ‘earthlings.’ 😉

However, my own private speculations are just that…personal opinions that have nothing to do with LDS doctrine or positions.
 
Let us speculate a bit…

The crucifixion of Jesus was done on our Earth, he suffered ONLY on account of human race. And human race/man is created as an image of God.

So, what is going on with other life-forms in the vaaaast Universe?
  • Are they not created as an image of God?
  • Can Jesus redeem those races in some other way?

Maybe the other forms of life are not sentient.
