Also, the Vatican was warning the LCWR, not all the women religious as a group. The LCWR does not speak for all women religious any more than the teachers’ unions speak the mind of all teachers. To say otherwise is rash judgment of the highest degree. The Vatican did not send out a letter to the whole church with a warning against radical feminism, but a warning to a specific group because of it’s obvious and loud issues. The LCWR are a serious problem, but not one that exists everywhere as you seem to imagine.![]()
The Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon are part of the LCWR. I don’t know every one of them, but the ones I do know are light years from being radical feminists. They are traditional Catholic women who have dedicated their lives to holiness and the work of the Church. They are not among those causing these problems, and they do not deserve to be vilified or connected with those whom the Vatican found worthy of correction.
Even within the orders that have a majority of members that publicly and wrongly oppose some teaching of the Church, there are likely to be members in those, too, who do not do any such thing. Their fidelity deserves to be recognized in conversations like this, particularly since they obviously maintain it while under considerable pressure to do otherwise.
