Are you a Christian or a Catholic

I don’t really like going back & forth on threads and I didn’t post what I posted to make anyone mad or “cringe” earlier, I just posted it. This was not posted with any ill feelings and it was not a swipe at anyone, but I do find it to be truthful. There are many new religions popping up constantly besides the main ones that have been around for a while. It seems that theres constantly someone coming along that feel that they are the first person to ever read Scared Scripture, and everyone else has been interpreting it wrong. I really don’t have a problem believing that there are between 40-60,000 different denominations worldwide with different & varying beliefs. Just to give you an example, I live in a pretty small town in the very far south suburbs of Chicago. My town has one stoplight, but it also has 7 different churches. One Catholic church, a Presbyterian church, a Christian Gospel church, a Christian church, a Methodist church, a Baptist church and a church of the Nazarene. I also think the quote I put from Jesus earlier confirms that this would happen and I think it should be repeated. “Satan wishes to sift you (meaning you all) like wheat, but Peter, I pray for you in unity.” When I posted this earlier, I wasn’t taking a shot at anyones particular religious beliefs and if anyone took it that way, they are sadly mistaken. Scripture tells us more about this in several places as well. I’m not real good at quoting chapter/verses, but I do know that Sacred Scripture tells us that there will be many who will “tickle our ears”. I think that many people may want to live in a particular sin & there is always someone who will come along and tell them what they are doing is okay, and confirm them in their sins. Jesus always taught with love and compassion, but He also didn’t always tell people what they wanted to hear. There are other passages in Sacred Scripture that refer to this as well, but I just can’t think of them now.

This is difficult to characterize. Probably saying thousands is safe.

It could be argued that this is either a low or a high number, depending on how one defines denomination. Even if one sticks with a smaller number of “mainstream” denominations the number is unclear as virtually all of them have deep schisms.

The main point is that people speak of Catholic vs. Protestant as if it were two faiths. Either way we are speaking of Christians. We believe Catholicism is the full faith and without error. Protestants have another view - but not the same as each other.

Very well said.
