Read this and answer it will be very easy. - Liberalism is a Sin

If the title offends you than most certainly you are a liberal. 😃
And if I posted a long article saying, ā€œConservatism is a sin,ā€ wouldn’t you be offended? šŸ™‚

It depends if I am obstinate in my belief.

Steve Andersen:
so he is assuming that
(a) the positions, as he states them are the positions of the institutions listed
(b) that you have to agree with the institutions listed to consider yourself a Liberal and
(c) even given a & b that there is no room for dissent or diversity of opinion in a school of thought.

Seems nothing more than an exercise in smugness
I don’t think it was intended to be smugness. I don’t listen to Prager often, because I’m not often near a radio when he’s on. The few times I’ve heard him, he seemed to be more thoughtful than your stereotypical conservative radio host. Last time I listened, there was a caller who had a bone to pick. He said something like, ā€œDennis, over the years, you’ve been probably the biggest influence in my life. I’ve always looked up to you. But I just can’t understand how you’ve made this switch to the Republicans and conservatives. I’ve always seen you as a good guy, but how can you be for them? The Democrats want to help people, and the Republicans are just for the corporations.ā€

The caller was convinced that Democrats were morally good, and that Republicans were selfish and objectively evil. (In the Scrooge sense, not in the Hitler sense.)

Prager’s response, first, was that his moral guide continues to be goodness. He went on to talk to the caller about the past 20 years and various decisions the country made that he saw as very important. He stated his belief that Reagan’s role in defeating Communism did more to promote ā€œgoodnessā€ in the world than any of the Democrat causes that may have been passed over.

He went on to talk about how ingrained the ā€œDemocrats are good, Republicans are evilā€ idea is for a lot of people. That, I believe, led to his contention that a lot of Liberals and Democrats retain their affiliation out of habit, not knowing the ways in which the leadership of their party has left them behind.

So his point is NOT that you have to agree with those things to be a liberal. He does however claim that those are positions of the leading liberals, and he wants the rank and file to be aware of it.

Smug city. Biased questions, just like a cheap TV political commercial.

Are you a Conservative? Are you sure? How many of these do you agree with šŸ™‚

1 - It’s OK to take money away from poor people who are struggling to make ends meet, and give it to rich people so they can all buy their daughters a Hummer H2 as a 16th birthday present, funded by a less progressive tax policy.

2 - Private companies should be allowed to chop down our national forests, God’s beautiful creation and a national treasure, so that the shareholders of these companies can enjoy higher returns on their investment.

3 - Gutting the public school system and taking away funding, by giving school vouchers to rich people, most of whom are already sending their kids to private school, is a super great idea.

Do I need to go on?

Yes - please give some examples.
  1. Who takes money form the struggling and gives it to the rich. Where did this money come from and whose was it. Or are you a communist?
  2. Who are the shareholders in these corps? Are you at all complicit in this? Do you own a 401K or mutual fund. Do you enjoy a 1% return or a minus return? Did you like the 90’s better?
  3. Do you believe that the mother government school system is the best choice for your children? Would competition strengthen or weaken the schools. If you had a choice where would you send your kids?

Easy there, Reagan, I was just mocking the original poster’s poll which is clearly slanted in favor of conservatives. I’m not up for debates on privatization and deregulation, tax policy, and school vouchers with you.

Especially since we’ve probably each debated these topics a hundred times, and are not likely going to change our minds… unless you are unsure on one of these issues, in which case I’d be happy to help educate you.

David_Paul:
But that is not the history of liberalism in the 20th century. From Lenin to Ortega, there was not one totalitarian socialist who was not praised by the left. For a short time, during the German-Soviet nonaggression pact, leftists were even on the side of Nazi Germany (the CIO called strikes to prevent munitions from going to the UK to fight the battle of Britain).

Even today we have members of the progressive caucus praising Fidel Castro.

Not all liberals, of course, went along with this. Hubert Humphrey didn’t. Neither did JFK, RFK, Sam Nunn, Daniel Patrick Moynihan and others. But many in the FDR and Truman administrations did. Elizabeth Bentley exposed over 100 of them. Venona exposed another 200+. Vice President Henry Wallace and other New Dealers visited the Kolyma concentration camp complex in 1944 and praised it. There was a brief hiatus in the 1950s, but by the 60s the apologists for totalitarianism were back in force. Robert Scheer, when he worked for Ramparts, praised Kim Il Sung. Today he works for the LA Times. And he isn’t alone. The New Left, the red diaper babies, won in the end. By Carter, they ran the Democratic party.

George Irbe on the subject:
It amazes me how any Catholic could be so willing to embrace the term ā€œenlightenmentā€. Historically, that was a pejorative directed against the Catholic Church. The enlightened part was the abandonment of the Church and its moral restraints in forming of new utopias. It’s little wonder that so many of its sons stand out as the worst mass murderers of history.

Darn! I Like this hat. I will remove my Reagan cap for a minute. šŸ™‚ I will put on my Caholic hat 😃 - Is liberalism compatible with Catholicism? :hmmm: In history? Has it ever been condemmed? :hmmm:Where did it come from?

Is this better?

Should we do a poll? It just might be enlightening?

I just praise God that we elected John Kerry so that the economy could recover and we’d reduce the deficeit…

Wait, Bush did that. I guess tax cuts work. 😃

Tax cuts never work! Tax to death is the only thing that works. Who keeps telling you this nonsense. Oh Yeah! I forget! The media and their consultants. :banghead:

Certainly, unless you are holding out the most extreme ā€œliberalā€ position as representing all of liberalism.
Has it ever been condemned?
Yes. The Communists were anti-liberal and condemned it. Something about individual rights, a free press, and nasty things like that got under their craw.
