Are you a Mother Angelica fan?

Saint Mother Angelica and the Venerable Saint Bishop Sheen are in the True Eternal World as we speak.
 
I like that she’s very conservative. Mother Angelica is awesome.

If it were not for my brother introducing me to EWTN more than a decade ago, I don’t think I would be a practicing Catholic now. That’s where it all started. I am very thankful for Mother and EWTN.

That might be my criticism too. But I’m biased. Sometimes the simple person with the simple message is right. Spirituality doesn’t have to pass a University Theology Exam.

She had a famous run-in with a certain Los Angeles Cardinal. It had to do with a pastoral letter he issued on the Eucharist. Mother panned it. She critiqued it point by point on her live show. And the Cardinal fought her back, tooth and nail, even threatening her with an interdict. Then other bishops joined in trying to get control of EWTN and to actually silence her completely. Her response was a Mother Angelica classic; “I’ll blow the damn thing up before you get your hands on it.”

What a gal!!!
 
But Sainthood isn’t about how popular a person it, it’s about their life
and their spirituality and their love of God. Beings a “cult” follower of
someone isn’t any reason for Sainthood.

Mother helped me on my conversion journey in the late 90s - early 00s. She was hilarious and no nonsense. I know her mostly from her later call in show. I have seen some of her earlier talks from the 80s and such, she was much more stern then. I think she mellowed some as she got older. I’m so thankful to her and when I hear her voice I light up. I love that the EWTN app has podcasts of Mother Angelica Live free to listen to.
 
It’s all about popularity. In Latin it’s called the public “cult.” Popularity is evidence that the person died in the odour of sanctity. And people are raised to the altars because they are a good example.
 
I don’t even think I’d consider her conservative. She was Catholic, plain and simple. And she made no apologies for it.
 
I doubt I can put into words how wonderful I think this woman was. Her no-nonsense style is much-needed today. I think it’s why she’s still so popular. I certainly learned a lot from her. Listening to her show in repeat, has made me laugh, cry, and sometimes both at the same time. A very faithful woman who put our Lord first in her life, and by so doing, enriched us all!
