Are you a Star Trek fan?

Iam wondering, are there any trekkies here? I love all of the Star Trek series. Not so much the movies, but the series. My favorite series
of Star Trek was DS9, and Voyager. Who is your favorite captain?
Kirk? Picard? Sisko? Janeway? Do you like Quark? I thought he
was funny!

I never became obsessed with it, I just love the series

I love it. I’ve watched it since I was six years old…the original series. We collect the little ships for our Christmas tree each year and a few other items. We don’t collect them for future sale though; we use them. *We don’t do the dress-up! *That’s over the top for me. We just really like the shows. My favorite species are the Klingons, especially Worf and B’elana (I can’t remember how to spell her name). Quark is funny too!

Iam not a huge fan of Be’ lana Torres. I like Worf, Kern,
and Gowran. ( until he became a meanie ) For the Borg,
I liked 7 of 9 and Hugh, as well as 7’s son, One. I also
loved Data, ( not Lor ) Riker, Nog ( DS9 ) Quark’s mom,
( not to fond of Rom ) I loved the Doctor on Voyager
I can’t stand Lwaxana Troi, or Deanna. I loved
Mr. Spock! Not terirbly fond of Tuvok. I don’t like Beverly
Crusher or her son Wesely. I couldn’t stand, Neelix,
Kes, and Seska! ( especially Seska! ) I never liked any
of the episodes of the ones with Seska in them, or her
friends the Kaizon. I did like Chakotay and Paris. I did not
like Kim. I liked Scotty and Kirk, Checkov, but not Bones.
My favorite Romulun was Tomolok. I never liked Odo, Jadzia
Dax, or Colonel Kira. I did like doctor Bashir… Quark is my
favorite character on DS9 By far, I prefer Captain Picard,
and Captain Janeway. On the last series,
Enterprise, I like Captain Archer, and The Andorian
commander, Shran I disliked all the episodes of the
Zindi. I do not like Malcolm ( whines to much ) or T’Pol.

Love the shows, but don’t qualify as a Trekkie. I have a SIL who is a Trekkie, and I’m not that obsessed. I can only speak a little Klingon.

Scott Bakula’s character isn’t on the list of captains. Did Enterprise not happen?

I can’t even remember the character name. Shows how memorable it was.

Cisko was the best captain. Janeway (and that entire series) the worst. Next Generation as the best series, but I like TOS the best overall. Shatner has got to be one of the worst actors ever to build an immensely successful long term carreer. Favourite aliens definitely Klingons with the way they were developed on STNG.

There’s a group out there called the Klingon Language Institute which is translating the Bible into Klingon. Now those are Trekkies.

The programs do have interesting themes and morals.

Liked all the series (except Enterprise), but only as distractive entertainment. They were, after all, set in an alternative universe where sound could travel in a vacuum, all the aliens spoke English (just like on Stargate-1), and no matter how badly the ship got damaged, it always still had artificial gravity (except for the Klingon ship on Undiscovered Country).

I missed a couple years of DS-9; wish I could borrow/rent it on DVD long enough to watch the whole thing from start to finish.

I’ve seen every episode since the first show came on the air in the 60’s, when I was in high school. So, I guess I could be called a Trekkie, although I’m not obsessed with it.

When ST got it right it was very good, but there were missteps and a lot of loopy philosophy, as well, which is why I could never fully embrace the whole concept.

I mean, what government, of any kind, is really going to send people out into space in what can only be described as luxury liners? The ships ought to have been more spare and utilitarian, IMO.

And as for their ongoing mission of “peace”, well, it was well-intentioned no doubt, but when Riker said he didn’t see the need for practicing war games I thought, “Then why are military tactics taught at the academy?” If they wanted to be an extension of NASA, they wouldn’t even have phasers let alone photon torpedoes!

When examined closely their world really couldn’t exist. The Federation would have been wiped out of heavens with such a pacifist attitude the first time they set out, if they really knew there were hostile aliens waiting for them.

In Star Trek the language problem is solved because they have a universal translator. Stargate has no such technology, which is freely admitted by the makers. In early episodes Daniel spent half the time learning the language. It would have got annoying if he had done this every episode for 8 series.

I actually quite like Enterprise. The ratings probably only failed because the plots became more complex with frequent 2, 3 or more parters, and unlike Voyager they introduced the beautiful woman in season one rather than waiting a while. Glad they answered the question of why the Klingons in “The Trouble with Tribbles” don’t look like later Klingons.

Yes, you’re right. But in any science fiction, expect the laws of physics to be suspended for the sake of story line and production. If you can get through that, then you can enjoy the series.

I love Star Trek. It’s what liberalism would be like if it actually worked. No need for money. No poverty. Government takes care of everybody. Everyone is a productive member of society. Nobody over eats. Society progresses without economic incentives. Marriage isn’t needed. Sexual freedom. Absence of God or religion. Respect for all cultures. Etc.

In the fantasy world, it’s great to look at.

I love all the series and movies. My favorite is still TOS. Compared to the later series, it is not much. But taken in the context of mid-1960’s, it is a trailblazer. The story lines and setup for the episodes are phenominal for 1960’s.

Let’s talk favorite episodes:

TOS: Trouble with Tribbles, the one about the son of God, and the Romulan episode where Kirk and the Romulan captain face each other.

TNG: Best of both Worlds - hands down.

DS9: The visitor. The one where Jake kills himself to change the past and bring back his father. I still get teary eyed whenever I see it.

Voyager: The one about species 459 (?), The one where the Borg Homeworld gets destroyed, and the final episode.

Enterprise: The one where they create a copy of Trip to harvest his organs.

Tell me some of your favorite episodes.

I’ve only seen the Voyager episodes once when they first aired, but I don’t think that that is her son. I forget his name, but he is also a former Borg. The relation might be one of being a former Borg and not a biological relationship. He stays with Voyager for several episodes.

7 of 9 had a son in the later Voyager episodes. She did not
have him in the normal manner. It happened when some nano
probes ( hers ) mixed with the DNA of another officer. I don’t
fully recall the episode, but it was good.

I think it’s been more than twice. I’d love to see Voyager reruns. Anyone know if they’re airing anywhere?
