Thank you, and great words of wisdom! Truth is what I’m after. I do believe in Jesus Christ. I want to expound upon that belief with a church that is not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ(Romans 1:16) or Jesus Himself. I have lots of questions to ask, unfortunaltly, I have no idea where to ask them on this forum yet.

What about right now? Ask away! 🙂

Wow. put on the spot. 😃 Most of my questions are probably pedestrian in nature, so, They aren’t “life or death” or anything like that. They are of curiosty.
  1. My father-in-law is a Roman Catholic. According to my wife, he never reads the bible. So, I guess the first one is: Do Catholics read the Bible? I kind of like reading it myself.
  2. I love Christian music. Although, my prefered tunes are what are label as Christian Death Metal(e.g. Becoming the Archetype), Unblack Metal,(eg Frost Like Ashes, Antestor) Screamo(eg Destroy the Runner). Is it cool if I still listen to my kind of music? It still praises Jesus, just really loudly
That’s all I got off the top of my head for now.(I promise I’ll have more serious questions)

On secon thought, scratch that. These questions sound trollish. I’ll get some more serious questions as they come to mind

Many Catholics read their bibles my father reads his every day. Many follow a set schedule of readings, such as the readings for the daily masses.
There is a non-profit group of Catholics, called Presentation Mininstires, that produce a booklet called One bread one Body
In the booklet they have the daily readings and a short application of the readings which are full of scriptural references for the reader to read as well.

As to your choice of tunage, the Church has no isssue what you call entertaiment.

Even though you retracted this questions, perhaps there are some lurkers who have the same question, so I will comment on them.

Firstly, one needs to be very careful about not confusing Catholics with Catholicism. What Catholics do is often not the same, sadly enough, as what Catholicism proclaims.

Thus, if one objects to a teaching of the Catholic Church that can be addressed here. If one objects to how a Catholic practices, well, that behavior/practice may or may not be sanctioned by Christ and his Church.

Secondly, the Bible is a Catholic book, written by Catholics, for Catholics, so of course the Church encourages the reading of Scripture. After all, it was the Catholic Church which discerned, preserved and protected the Scriptures so that you can know what’s inspired and what’s not. You would not know it any other way.

Thirdly, the Church does not have a position on what types of music to listen to, provided that it does not encourage sin.

I am a “cradle” Catholic and I read the Bible every day. I have “The One Year Bible – Catholic Edition”. It contains the entire New Living Translation with deuterocanonical books arranged in 365 daily readings. Each day usually includes readings from the Old Testament, then New Testament and Psalms. It’s the last thing I do before I turn off the light at night.
Of course, during the Mass we also have readings from the Bible – don’t forget those readings!!!

Not to mention that practically everything we and the priest say during the Mass comes from the Bible…from

In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. (Matt. 28:19)
to Amen (1 Chr 16:36)
to Lord Jesus Christ, you said to your apostles; I leave you peace, my peace I give to you. (John 14:27)

etc etc etc!

Thank you for answering, I feel silly asking those.[The rest of this is moved to a new thread]😃

Thank you for answering, I feel silly asking those. But, now, however, I do have a serious question: My wife, is, as I now find out, very strongly** opposed to the idea of me joining the Catholic Church. She was says she was baptized, but never confirmed Catholic. She is staunch Non-Demominational, and her objections seem to be based on the typical misconceptions of The Church. She doesn’t seem to be interested in reading any of the information on the Catholic Answers website, so I’m not sure what to do. Any advice?
Yes, my advice is that you start a new thread with this post so this one doesn’t get all confused.

😃

We try to set ourselves up as the original New Testament church did and follow what is outlined by the apostles.
Welcome Queenyellow,
There seem to be a lot newer churches that are looking to set themselves up as the original New Testament church.
One thing to consider is that when the Apostles set up the early church, they did not have the Bible yet, only the Old Testament.

I think of it like this, Jesus founding the Church on the Rock of Peter, is like planting an acorn. The Catholic Church is the oak tree that came from that acorn. The Catholic Church is where the Bible came from. The Bishops of the Catholic Church decided on the Canon, and it was approved by the Pope. The books that were selected for the New Testament because they teach Catholic beliefs. They could not have selected books that teach Protestant doctrine, because Protestantism had not yet been invented.
Peace
David

No, it’s not Catholic. It is strictly word for word what the Bible says. No outside material whatsoever.

Through the Grace of God I am Catholic for many reasons and the Main reason is the most Holy Eucharist, did not Jesus Say in John 6:40 And this is the will of my Father that sent me: that every one who “seeth” the Son, and “believeth” in him, may have life everlasting, and I will raise him up in the last day.

Now tell me, where can we see Jesus Christ today for the Father said: "that every one who “SEETH” the Son will be saved.

Surly, we all here at CAF have never seen Jesus we were not born 2000 years ago, so where today can we “see” the SON and be saved, like the Father wants all of us to do today?

God the Father, wants us all to seeth His Son and Believe and be saved in this 21st century, the Only Place you can SEETH His Son is the Most Holy Eucharist in every Catholic Church. Because Jesus Christ is there 100% Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity! AMEN.

Many Protestants may have seen Jesus Christ in the Eucharist in a Catholic Church but yet, they don’t BELIEVE. What does that equal?

I belong to the Church of Christ (not the out there ones). This would fall under the Protestant umbrella, although we really don’t use that term. I have attended a private Christian school my entire life and therefore have had an opportunity to learn and compare Catholic to Protestant. I am a member of the Church of Christ because we believe strictly in the Bible. We try to set ourselves up as the original New Testament church did and follow what is outlined by the apostles.
Queenyellow,

Jesus Christ did not leave the Bible to Guide us, Jesus Christ left His one and Only Church to guide us.

Queenyellow, did Jesus Christ say to Peter, in Matt 16:18 And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build MY BIBLE, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it? NO! Rather

Matt 16:18 And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Queenyellow, No one can start a church, if they do it is only a man made church, and it will never be the “Church of Christ”, those who do, are just kidding themselves. To begin a new church even if they do call it “the church of Christ” these are subconsciously telling Jesus Christ the gates prevailed over the first Church and therefore we need to build another one. A scary road you travel on, don’t you think?

Wendit, I had to skip the last few pages of dialogue to post a reply to you. You said Jesus died once, absolutely true. You followed that by a question, “but at every Mass?”. Of course not. Jesus died once. That is it. You see, God is out of time, he see the beginning and the end. He sees it all at once. Jesus’ crucifixion, death and resurrection all happen as God observes me and my life. This Sacrifice is presented to God at every Mass. It is not a new Sacrifice, but the one and only necessary Sacrifice.

When we, as Catholics, say the Mass is beautiful and all the other adjectives used to describe our sense of “awe” at being the presence of God, that is what we are trying to put into words. We feel the same as John and Mary and Mary Magdalla felt as they were watching the same Sacrifice. I know i feel the love, the desire for me to be accepting of His desire for my walk, all these things.

No mere human can confect this Real Presence, only an ordained Priest in the order of Jesus can do this. Don’t be afraid to learn all of this. I came from a Baptist background which would sound similar to what you are speaking of, but that was a long time ago. Since I became Catholic, it all falls into place.

May our Lord bless you as you continue your journey to Him.

Stan
