Are you going to get a flu shot?

For anyone interested in reading more on the subject:

mercola.com/display/router.aspx?docid=201&sourceDocID=26283&Search_Keywords=flu%20vaccine

here is an interesting tidbit:

It has been six years since the American Academy of Pediatrics and the U.S. Public Health Service joined forces in requesting the removal of all mercury-containing preservative thimerosal from vaccines.

A quick surf on the net easily reveals that this new vaccine indeed contains mercury.

How is it possible that they can approve vaccines that have a preservative that has been outlawed for six years? Last year I ran an article that documented that flu vaccines still contain mercury. How can the US federal government justify this morally reprehensible behavior and expose your children and you to this well documented neurotoxic poison?

above from:
mercola.com/2005/sep/20/new_flu_vaccine_is_loaded_with_mercury.htm

Many people are rushing out to get a dose of the flu vaccine, as the supposed number of flu deaths a year is an estimated 36,000. However, new evidence shows a major flaw in these numbers.

According to the CDC’s most recent death statistics located on their Web site, influenza and pneumonia killed 62,034 people in 2001. That means, in light of the current statistic, that just over half of those deaths resulted from the flu. This however is far from true.
Upon further investigation of the Web site, the** actual number of deaths caused by the flu came to 257,** with pneumonia accounting for the remaining number of deaths.

Critics suggest the answer lies in the CDC’s misleading warnings of the dangers linked to the flu, as well as their “recipe” for increasing flu shot demands. The ingredients include:
  • Concern
  • Anxiety
  • Fear
Moreover, significant profits are generated through the manufacturing, distributing and administrating of the flu vaccine. Sales from 2003 reached $332.4 million dollars, which only accounted for the manufacturing aspect of the vaccine.

Even more shocking, is the information the CDC posted on their Web site based on their own studies. They believe the flu vaccine to only be 16-63 percent effective against the flu. With this data in mind, critics conclude the flu vaccine to be pretty much worthless. In response, the CDA claims that their study did not imply the vaccine to be completely ineffective.

There is much, much more info there… I do not get a flu shot and I will not until I am assured that it is safe AND effective.

the last 3 years the vaccine was not available until I had already had the flu (bad). I will get a shot as soon as it comes in. I have asthma and each bout is worse than the last and the effects linger for weeks.

**Abby-

I have NEVER been permitted to get the flu shot while pregnant!!!

Are you sure this is safe???**

I don’t think I would get it when pregnant…But the doctor probably knows best.

My husband and I will get it. A Nurse friend of ours is bring it to our house to administer as my husbands health is so poor from his Cancer treatments. It worries me both ways.

I think he needs it, but complications are a concern. However, it is recommended, so we shall both get it. I can’t afford to get down with the flu taking care of him. I usually don’t get one though.

Island Oak:
Anyone else hear the piece on NPR (hold your rotton tomatoes) on how pre-school children are the biggest spreaders of the flu and usually the leading edge of any outbreak? A study from Japan showed that when this age group was vaccinated against the flu, infection rates in the unvaccinated elderly declined significantly.
I heard that story yesterday. I though it was interesting. It actually makes a lot of sense if you think about it.
A related report also encouraged active and frequent hand washing and avoiding the school drinking fountain–one of the dirtiest things tested in the school–containing more harmful bacteria than the toilet seats. !
Heard that too. I went out and bought a bunch of bottled water yesterday because of it. I will think twice about using the drinking fountain at work.

I usually get a flu shot, but I don’t ever remember getting the flu. I get if for free at work, and I figure that a quick jab in the arm is worth it. I like being immune to everything possible. I get the flu shot more for epidemiological reasons than personal reasons. People do die from the flu. I might not be at high risk, but if I can avoid being one of those people carrying the flu, then high-risk people can benefit from my getting it.

MomToMany:
Two years ago I was 14 weeks pregnant and got a flu shot. The next week I went in for a routine OB checkup and found out the baby had recently died. I miscarried a seemingly perfecly formed baby boy. It was devastating. I may be completely off base but all I can think of is the flu shot because of the timing. My dr. says it had nothing to do with it. On the other hand, the miscarriage was not reported to the agency that handles the flu shot so how do they know how often it happens?

I’m sure for most people the shot would be fine. I am currently 29 weeks pregnant and will NOT be getting a flu shot until the baby is born.
It may very well be an innocent coincidence, I once got a typhoid shot not realizing I was pregnant and my son was fine. Sometimes bad things just happen, I’m very sorry for your loss.

I’ve never had one although they tell me with my condition I should get one. Our daughter is homeschooled so she doesn’t bring any germs home like most school age children do. I haven’t had a bad flu in years. I usually get a cold once or twice over the winter but not the flu. My mom got sick right after her flu shot too. So I wonder about that too.

So even though the doctors tell me to I probably won’t.

No - I think it’s a racket to enrich the pharmaceutical industry. Flu shots are a billion dollar or more a year business, I’d guess.

I had quadruple bypass surgery two years ago. My doctor makes sure I’m one of the first line.

No flu shots here. I “should” because I’m an asthmatic, but my asthma is more exercise-induced than anything, so I don’t. My dr. agrees w/ me on this, so I’m good to go.

If you read some of the links I provided it explains how the flu vaccine weakens our immune systems making us more susceptible to illness. So while we are not getting the flu from thevaccine, it is contributing to it.

No, it doesn’t explain how the vaccine weakens the immune system. It makes pseudo-scientific claims about weakening the immune system. The flu vaccine has been proven to be highly effective and has saved many lives. Many studies–actual scientific studies–have shown this.

I’m 7 months pregnant and my doctor also told me to be sure to get a flu shot. I’ve never had one and remain a little nervous about getting one while pregnant.

Someone is paying for it, even if it’s not you.

True…but then, with medical bills over $150,000 I figure it is stuffed in there somewhere. 🙂

As active duty, U.S. Navy, I will be required to get a shot if they are available for us. A few years ago I was not able to get a shot due to availability of the vaccine in my area, and I came down with the flu. For the full week after Christmas I could barely get out of bed to even use the bathroom–my whole body ached, I coughed in pain. It hurt just to roll over. I felt like I’d been hit by a truck. I don’t exaggerate–it was the only time in 23 years of active duty that I’d had to take a day off from work because of my illness. So, I arch my eyebrows when I hear how somebody with the sniffles and sore throat after receiving the flu shot claims to have gotten the flu from the shot.

This has been my experience with the flu, too. It’s horrible.

I was skeptical when a few posters on this thread described it as being nothing more than a few days of discomfort and cuddling. Perhaps they think they had the flu when it was really just a bad cold or respiratory infection.

The Flu is no sniffle. For sure! 👍 I had it in 1981 and it turned into walking pneumonia… Six weeks of real sick. I don’t want to go there again. It took me 6 months to get back to full strength again. 😦
