Are you going to Mass on All Souls Day?

Pax vobiscum!

Oh, yes, I’m certainly going to Mass on All Souls Day. In fact, I will be going to a Sung High Requiem Mass according to the old Dominican Rite. That means that the choir will be singing Dies Irae. Can’t wait!

In Christ,
Rand
Oh Dies Irae… Nice song… I just wish that i can attend a requiem mass and Dies irae be sung. I really like that chant and i have the score of that chant and i usually chant it by myself.

By the way, with regards to the Liturgy of the Hour, are we going to use the Office for the dead on November 2?

November 1 and 2 are solemnities so we are expected to attend Holy Mass eventhough it is not a Holy day of Obligation for some.

Unless work ships me off to Tampa, I’ll be attending Mass at All Soul’s here in town (In Latin, no less!!)

How’s that for fittingness? 😃

Mass attendance is always obligatory in seminary, but we can gain a plenary indulgence if we visit our cemetery each day for nine days, starting November 1, and pray for the souls of the faithful departed. I won’t miss this opportunity!

I’ll be going on All Saint’s Day on Nov. 1st…
Our parish always has an evening Mass for those of us who work… we’ll be there at 7:30pm… 👍

All Souls Day is not a holy day of obligation the US. All Saints Day is, the day before, November 1.

well iam not in the USA. my fact sheet states ours is november 1st as all saints day andit says it is a holy day of obligation. i guessmy title should’ve read all saints day not all souls day. here in canada, all saints day is a holy day of obligation.

That’s ok. I am in the USA and will be attending Mass for All Saint’s (tomorrow actually, for the Vigil), and then on Thursday for All Soul’s. I go to both Masses. When the Bishops give dispensation for some of the Holy Days because they fall on Monday or Saturday (which happened with All Saint’s two years ago), I still attend Mass even though I don’t “have to”.

because our pastor has obligations at another parish, there will me a holy day Mass Tuesday evening, two on Wed. morning (one for the school children), but no Mass Wed. Evening, two masses thursday (all souls, el dia de los muertos), one am one pm, which are referred to here as novenas in that this day culminates a novena which has been said for the poor souls. We also have the custom of a novena of rosaries after the death of a loved one. Could not get another priest for Wed. they are all busy in their own parishes and missions. There will probably be more people at Mass for All Souls than for All Saints.

All Saints and All Souls aren’t Holy Days of Obligation here in the merry but lazy (faithwise) land of Oz, so there aren’t any extra Masses laid on unfortunately.

But certainly I will attend Mass on both days unless something really extraordinarily urgent comes up - as I do the majority of days anyways.
All Saints Day IS a holy day of obligation. What planet do you live on?

The planet of Australia! You know, where everyone walks on their heads? In Australia, All Saints Day is not a holy day of obligation. Like Lily said, Australians have become lazy. I’m really not sure why Damascus took issue with this though.

Anyway, I have only attended one All Saints Day which was when I was in San Francisco at this time last year. The year before I wasn’t really in the Church. This year I will try to go a daily mass on All Saints Day.

I’ll be there. My work day on November 1 is from 10 - 6 because of Parent-Teacher Conferences. Our parish has Masses at 6:30 am and 12:15 pm. I’ll be at 6:30. It always impresses me that people can SING at 6:30 in the morning.

I’ll probably go on All Soul’s Day, as well, since I am usually able to go on Thursdays. Unless DH is working, and I have to take the kiddos to school.

Last year, I had to ask permission to show up late for work in order to go to Mass on All Saints. My boss said it was no problem - just to pray for her. Which I was glad to do.

For our TLM Indult, All Souls is the only non-Sunday, non Holyday Mass available all year, so you bet. I’m taking off work for a couple of hours. Hope to make it to All Saints TLM the night before too. That would make it the first time ever I’ve been to the Traditional Mass two days in a row!

I’m hoping to see the priest in Black vestments for the first time since I was a kid. Neat! Cool! Retro! It’s great when something old again becomes something new!

Not in Australia :nope:

Not quite a different planet but the Holy Days of each country are determined by its Council of Bishops I believe - and if I recall rightly Ascension wasn’t even on the Thursday in all dioceses in the US.

Ascension has been moved to Sunday for several years now in the Diocese of Cleveland. I attended Mass on what would have been Ascension, but it was a regular weekday Mass.

The NZ Bishops also removed All Saints Day from being a Holy Day of Obligation.

Coincidentally, about the same time NZers started doing the Halloween trick or treat stuff.

One of the great benefits of attending daily Mass is that when a date creeps up and surprises me, I still managed to make it to Mass. That has happened on a couple of occasions.

I go to a nearby Franciscan convent for Lauds (LOTH Morning Prayer) and Mass. Right there in the Breviary I see it. Today is an HDO. Then, the priest comes out in a more formal vestments, the Gloria is recited, we have three readings.

“Sister, I didn’t realize what today is.” I say to a sister after Mass.

This sister, whom I have known for quite a long time looks at me, shakes her head and says, “You have got to get your head out of your work. Today is the (insert the Holy Day of Obligation). You need to keep up!”

I am really hoping to go to Mass today. Was planning to go at lunchtime but there were only two of us in the office, and the phones have to be manned at all times. My co-worker asked me what time Mass was at the Cathedral five minutes away from the office, so I let him go (he doesn’t usually go to Mass so I took that as a good sign). I am hoping to go to the 7.30pm Mass in my parish tonight - but if my train is delayed that won’t happen.

However, I am going on retreat tomorrow night, until Sunday night so really looking forward to that.

Most definately! Will be at the same Mass as Rand. This will be the third time in 3 weeks we’ve driven down to Portland. Ancient Dominican Rite, wow! If they can allow that how come the Tridentine is “verboten”?

Wish the Bishop would clear this up for us.

I will be working late in order to attend Mass at a church a few minutes away. Since I cannot make it back to my own parish, I will offer up my sufferings to God for the hippy-dippy guitar music I will have to endure.
