I strongly believe that Republicanism is an ideology based on the notions that a tax is the worst possible evil in the universe and that business can do no wrong. I also strongly believe that the Republican party added its “pro-life” plank in 1980 in order to garner the Christian vote but would jettison it if they thought they could win without it. Anyway, I’d like to see what would happen if the parties changed their views on morals issues ONLY.

I’m leaving the poll anonymous so no one has to feel they need to explain their vote to their fellows.

By the way, DP means death penalty and “Big 5” refers to the so-called 5 “non-negotiables.”

Ok, your analysis of the base Republican ideals is way off. But I would under no circumstances vote for a candidate that supported abortion.

Looks like someone is more Republican than pro-life (second option is the Republican option). Why am I not surprised?

I must be really dumb because I don’t understand the poll. 😊 I don’t see anything where it says being antiabortion vs Republican.

Where is the option for the Democratic Party stances?
Option 1 is the Democratic stances with “Big 5” compliance thrown in.

Option 2 is Republican stances with non-“Big 5” compliance.

I’m limited to how much explanation I can put in the poll questions otherwise I would have spelled it out.

Ah, how you can hate!😛

Critical, yes. Hateful, no. There is a difference, but I don’t expect you to understand it.
Not “hateful,” “hating.” It’s clear your approach here is based on your hatred of those who don’t think like you.

Pot, meet kettle.

I don’t hate anyone nor do I harbor hatred for people who disagree with or think like me. That is generally what happens when an extremist of any stripe gets power (a la Mussolini on the extreme right and Stalin on the extreme left). I don’t wish the death of anyone, unlike those who are quick to go to war or support the death penalty.

So, please…don’t accuse me of unfounded accusations and insults when you do nothing but post them yourself.

Now, am I disgusted by certains ways of thinking? Absolutely!
Flabbergasted? Oh yes.
Gobsmacked? You betcha!
Do I hate such people? Nope.

Your posts say different. They are full of bile.

This says it all:
**I strongly believe **that Republicanism is an ideology based on the notions that a tax is the worst possible evil in the universe and that business can do no wrong. I also strongly believe that the Republican party added its “pro-life” plank in 1980 in order to garner the Christian vote but would jettison it if they thought they could win without it.
(My emphasis.)

You aren’t arguing about reality, you’re arguing about what you “strongly believe.”

Wow, this has got to be the most confusing poll I’ve ever seen! 😃

Short answer:

I’m pro-life first … Would definitely vote Democrat if the Democrat candidate was in favor of protecting the unborn, and if he/she were running against a liberal Republican who was not pro-life. 🙂

Normally though, I’m a Republican.

It’s confusing, because it’s based on a warped vision of what other people believe and do.

It’s like saying, “would you vote for a man who built the log cabin in which he was born with his own two hands, or would you vote for a space-cadet who believes we can hitch a ride on Comet Hale-Bopp?”😉

Here is where you get confused brother, I’m conservative, before I’m a dem or repub. I’m NOT gonna vote for a liberal repub, but I would vote for a conservative dem,and there are some out there, especially here in the south.

Is there a SINGLE major candidate in the dem party that is pro life with the tags of option one? Might find him hanging out with the tooth fairy.

But let me be clear -I’m NOT gonna vote pro choice, even if the guy is a flag bearer for everything else I believe, running against a guy pro life who displeases me on every other issue. I’m just not.

The only issue I have with most repubs is the death penalty. I’ve softened my view on it. Probably not correct the state takes a life, I think the purpose can be served out in the super max prisons like in Colorado. 23 hrs a day in a cell, no human contact, no nothing for the rest of your life. It will make you wish for the DP after a time. I forget the name, possibly the Unabomber or MCViegh’s accomplice? But he is there and firing off letters everyday after just a couple years, saying it is cruel and unusual punishment.

When I gotta choose between my view on DP or abortion I vote pro life, because I feel the DP is a easier row to hoe to get changed. The states have much more control on it making it easier to deal with.

After that, let the chips fall where they may.

Wow, what a mis-leading title for this thread? I thought there would be a poll attached. I don’t even understand what you’re asking, but it would seem that there should be more than two choices with all the factors you seem to include.

Hold on there.

Are you saying that Republicans aren’t:

Pro-war
Pro-death penalty
Pro-deportation
Anti-tax
Anti-regulation of business
Anti-publicly provided services
Anti-union

Once you remove the “pro-life” façade, this is what I see left. Correct that list if I’m wrong. If I am wrong, I’d love to see

I’m saying that’s what you believe – regardless of the reality.

And all of them – even reducing taxes – is eeeeeevile?

It’s simple:

Would you rather vote for a hog-calling, stump-climbing, knuckle-dragging Republican, or for a virtuous, chivalrous knight in Democratic armor?

Nothing misleading about that!:rotfl:

I am Pro-Life/Anti-Abortion, but I support the Death Penalty.

Abortion kills the innocent. The Death Penalty is punishement for heinous crime.

The above opinion is mine, and in no way should be construed as an my interpretaion of Catholic teachings. 🤷

Pro-deportation
Anti-tax

Anti-publicly provided services
Anti-union

That would pretty much be me, along with the above post.
