Everyone is a member of the Church though baptism, but not everyone is a practicing member of the Catholic Church and it is not within the authority of the lay person to determine this.
“Guess what? You’re not a practicing Catholic.”
Simple.
I’d be careful about dividing Catholicity and Christianity btw.
