Hi, I’ve run into a theological conundrum - at least for me :o I’m involved in a 3D environment in which I buy server space, in the guise of an “island” of land, and I subdivide that and rent off the smaller parcels at a premium. Each “island” is named. I run a strictly PG-rated enterprise in a decidedly no-holds barred virtual world, so i do try to set an example, and safe keep it very rigourously. With that, I have a client who has purchased a large enough region to have it named, and the client is requesting the name Amativa. My dilemma is that I am concerned that by using that name I am condoning, and in a sense even endorsing, that philosophy. I haven’t been able to find anything that explicitly says it is against our Faith, but it seems to me that the precepts of it are, hence my post here. I would greatly appreciate an authoritative reply(s).

PS: I had submitted an abbreviated version of this post to the Ask an Apologist forum on October 2nd, but I am obligated to purchase the required server space today (October 6th).

I have no authority, but it seems to me like you are looking for someone to tell you that what you consider to be against the principles you set isn’t in fact against them in order to not loose a sale.

Let me guess, SecondLife?

How the heck would a name mean you condone a philosophy? And why in the world is the title of the journal what it is? I seriously hope this thread dosen’t turn into a “Amativa veruses Catholicism” debate, because that will be really, really sad.

Not at all. I have an alternate name already approved - “Aquinas.” I would like to go with the buyer’s first choice, but only if the Ars Amativa works by Ramon Lull are accepted by the Church. According to wikipedia.org he was at one point condemned by the Church yet he was later beautified. Hence my inquiry for clarification.

My intent is exactly as stated, no more, no less. I believe I asked a straight forward question, although, being unfamiliar with the matter, that may not be the case. If it does turn into a debate thread I will not be one to participate in such as I am not here to stir any pots.

Thank you for the clarification, Mirror. I’m afraid that the impetus of the newly converted like myself sometimes gets ahead of wisdom.

No issues from me Snowy 🙂 I’ve gone ahead and ordered the new region as Aguinas, albeit prefixed with my own branding. I’d like to be able to consider using the name “Amativa” for a future expansion, so I’d still greatly appreciate clarification. Thank you 🙂
