" Let us therefore allow ourselves to be reached by this look, which is directed not to our eyes but to our heart. In silence, let us listen to what he has to say to us from beyond death itself.By means of the Holy Shroud, the unique and supreme Word of God comes to us: Love made man, incarnate in our history; the merciful love of God who has taken upon himself all the evil of the world to free us from its power… So, looking upon the Man of the Shroud, I make my own the prayer which Saint Francis of Assisi prayed before the Crucifix: Most High, glorious God, enlighten the shadows of my heart, and grant me a right faith, a certain hope and perfect charity, sense and understanding, Lord, so that I may accomplish your holy and true command.
Amen . (Pope Francis , on Holy Saturday 30 March 2013)

This is so powerful, thank you for sharing. it led me to a site with a gallery page showing other works by this sculptor who notes: “My mission is by my work to talk about our origin, the Creator and loving Father who shows us every day why and how to live.”
Here’s the gallery link:

I have so many pieces of art about Christ that I absolutely adore and keep in my devotional practice…but this particular work by Harry Anderson will always have a special place in my heart. I was not raised in a Christian home. I got some books with pictures of Jesus in them, and some kid Bibles from family members who were mormon but there was never church, prayer, or any kind of devotional practice. My upbringing was…bad to say the least. I never knew why, but when things got especially bad I’d hide in my closet with a flashlight and stare at this picture for long periods of time. I knew nothing about Jesus, but the image did something in my heart that brough me peace during times of intense fear. I now believe it was the Holy Spirit calling me to Christ even before I knew who he was. He had chosen me and has been drawing me in all my life. Proof that he must be good - I am absolutely the last person I’d think he’d want around!

I love this so much. In this picture Mary consoles Eve. She is mothering the mother of humanity by bringing Christ to her with a gentle touch and a face of empathy. She SEES the sorrow and pain sin has caused Eve. She crushes the head of the serpent that has wrapped itself around Eve almost casually because the ferocity of the serpent is nothing compared to the power of love.
