That is quite creepy. I wonder when or if we will know if an underground nuclear test in North Korea has been confirmed?

It’s basically common sense that these underground nuclear explosions caused this. Drudge has more on this story.

Alarming.

Nothing to see here folks.
Exactly. It was undoubtedly a small nuclear test, which will only serve to alienate DPRK further. Hopefully the world will largely yawn, and refuse KJU the attention he seeks.

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korea successfully detonated a miniaturized nuclear device at a northeastern test site Tuesday, state media said, defying U.N. Security Council orders to shut down atomic activity or face more sanctions and international isolation.
The underground explosion could take North Korea a big step closer to its goal of building a nuclear warhead small enough to be mounted on a long-range missile that could threaten the United States.

Where on earth is North Korea getting the weapons and technology to pull this kind of thing off? Are they working with Iran or something?😦

One would think so… but it’s sending out alarms:
PYONGYANG, North Korea (AP) – North Korea conducted a nuclear test at an underground site in the remote northeast Tuesday, taking an important step toward its goal of building a bomb small enough to be fitted on a missile that could reach United States.
North Korea made clear that the explosion of its third atomic device - which it claimed was smaller than the ones in its previous two tests - was a warning to what it considers a hostile United States. Its actions drew immediate condemnation from Washington, the U.N. and others. Even its only major ally, China, voiced opposition.
SEOUL, Feb. 12 (Yonhap) – After North Korea vowed to continue firing long-range rockets without mentioning a promised nuclear test, South Korea’s defense ministry said Tuesday Pyongyang could launch missiles and detonate a nuclear device simultaneously.
South Korea has been put on high alert since the North last month threatened to conduct a third atomic test to protest strengthened sanctions for its December rocket launch, with some expecting the tension to enter the most critical phase this week ahead of political events.
North Korea made clear that the explosion of its third atomic device - which it claimed was smaller than the ones in its previous two tests - was a warning to what it considers a ‘hostile’ United States.

Official state media said the test was conducted in a safe manner and is aimed at coping with “outrageous” U.S. hostility that “violently” undermines the North’s peaceful, sovereign rights to launch satellites. Unlike previous tests, North Korea used a powerful explosive nuclear bomb that is smaller and lighter, state media reported.
**President Obama called the test “a highly provocative act” in a statement Tuesday morning.
"The danger posed by North Korea’s threatening activities warrants further swift and credible action by the international community. The United States will also continue to take steps necessary to defend ourselves and our allies,"Obama said.
“The United States remains vigilant in the face of North Korean provocations and steadfast in our defense commitments to allies in the region,” he added.

So, there does appear to be more gravity involved in this matter this time.

The West believes that North Korea has stockpiled enough plutonium, obtained from defunct nuclear reactors, to make a few atomic bombs. The West does not believe that North Korea currently has weapons grade uranium, although it seems to be pursing that goal. But, as with all things concerning North Korea, much is based upon guess work.

Plutonium can be used for nuclear weapons, but the explosive yield is much less than with uranium. North Korea hasn’t had great success with its prior nuclear tests, but this one was stronger than in the past. Still, the yield was less than the first atomic bomb which was dropped by the US back in 1945.

Despite the claims of Pyongyang, it is not thought that the bombs are small enough to fit on a missile.

Whether there is technology transfer between Iran and North Korea, I wouldn’t be surprised. Both are pariah states which have turned to one another out of common hatred for the West.
No country is more interested in the results of the North’s nuclear program, or the Western reaction, than Iran, which is pursuing its own uranium enrichment program. The two countries have long cooperated on missile technology, and many intelligence officials believe they share nuclear knowledge as well, though so far there is no hard evidence. Iran is preparing for two important sets of negotiations with the International Atomic Energy Agency, the United Nations’ nuclear regulatory body, starting in on Wednesday, and later this month with the six world powers seeking to curb its nuclear program.

All correct thinking socialist democrats must understand the artificial earthquake our fellow travelers in North Korea detonated only signals its desire to co-operate in killing American terrorist in support of party chairman comrade president Barack Barockovich Obama war on terror justice commissar memorandum. All correct thinking progressives know North Korea at this time doesn’t have drone technology so must rely on harsher means to blow up capitalist running dogs. In this regard we can expect the two leading democratic states of our planet Iran and North Korea to jointly co-operate to punish Zionist expansion into peaceful Palestinian areas and maybe eradicate illegal Israeli settlements in support of UN position. This is a glorious day for the advancement of equality and liberation of oppressed peoples everywhere.

They speak of putting a bomb on a missile but of course, any country that wants to place a bomb in the USA, can do so through our relatively open border.

North Korea has had this technology for a long time. Might as well ask how did India or Pakistan get the technology.

Peace,
Ed

North Korea has been exceptionally isolated for decades and decades, I don’t think it’s the same situation as with India and Pakistan. The question is valid, is it the old “Axis of Evil”? Iran, North Korea and ? Was there a 3rd country? Was it Iraq back when Bush Elder said this? I think so.

it can’t be good if you can’t remember who the axis of evil is/was…
