As a Catholic, how do you respond when the Protestants ask, are you saved??

if you say “no I’m Catholic” they’ll just try to convert you 😉

you can say something like:

“Are you saved?” asks the Fundamentalist. The Catholic should reply: “As the Bible says, I am already saved (Rom. 8:24, Eph. 2:5–8), but I’m also being saved (1 Cor. 1:18, 2 Cor. 2:15, Phil. 2:12), and I have the hope that I will be saved (Rom. 5:9–10, 1 Cor. 3:12–15). Like the apostle Paul I am working out my salvation in fear and trembling (Phil. 2:12), with hopeful confidence in the promises of Christ (Rom. 5:2, 2 Tim. 2:11–13).”

THAT’S in a book I’ve got called “PROVE IT! ~CHURCH” AWESOME BOOK!!!

Tell heretics that one can not say that he is already saved because you are not a judge of yourself.

as a protestant pentecostal, i came forward to an altar call at the age of 12 and there, “gave my heart to Jesus.” Now, all of a sudden, a couple of days later, I started thinking bad thoughts about God, etc and just blamed it on Satan, etc.

Went about living as though nothing really happened. I was 12 for God’s sake and in the pentecostal church, you had Sunday School and that was IT as far as religious education went. Then from about 13-16, I was a repeat at the altar, mind you this was even after my Baptism at age 15. My body and mind as a teen was telling me one thing and these church leaders are telling me another.

At age 16, I gave up. Oh I still went to church but I was burned out on “obtaining salvation”. Much to my amazement when RCIA held my Baptism up as valid. I had no idea.

Is it any wonder why I am the way I am. I pretty much wonder why I was even born at times. So when I get that whole “are u saved brother”, I basically say yes and move on. WHY?
  1. Blessed are those who believe and yet haven’t seen. Yep, that’s me.
  2. John held baptism for the forgiveness of sins. No other method did he use. Check. Did that one.
I don’t get into too details and I do try to avoid said people because of my spiritual weaknesses, bondages, flaws, etc and because a lot of what I say is going to go over their heads. sorry if you fall into this category. Someday, I keep telling myself, this will have all been worth it.

I respond with “I hope so. I believe that Jesus Christ died for my sins and I love him with all my heart. However, I won’t know until my final judgement.”

Every Catholic should carry a laminated prayer card in their back pocket which has the text of the Gospel of John, Chapter 6 on it. Whenever they get asked about being saved, begin reading the card until the Protestant either “gets it” or goes away. Keep in mind that they probably won’t get it.

👍

As the Bible says, I’m working out my salvation in trembling and fear.

I was saved in baptism. I am in the process of being saved in my day to day life. I hope to be saved on the last day. 👍

As I have a warped sense of humour and I fall down a lot I would make a joke and say something like “only when my husband is near enough to catch me when I lose my balance”. When I make jokes like that it usually throws people, and they think I’m too stupid for them to explain what they mean!!! 😛

When they ask me “Have you found Jesus?” my response is “I didn’t know he was lost!” 😛

I always ask them what they mean by being saved. The formulation is almost always something like “accepting Jesus Christ as my personal savior”. Then, of course, I always say “Yes, I do accept Jesus Christ as my personal savior” or whatever works if it’s true.

That pretty well ends the whole inquiry, because the whole thing is as shallow as shallow gets.
My response to the “personal savior/relationship” argument is to quote I John 2:4:
He who saith that he knoweth him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
It’s kind of a slap in the face, but it gets them out of the “personal relationship” smugness.

I respond: “I am saved, I am being saved, and I hope to be saved.”

That does one of two things - it either starts a conversation, or it stops the issue fight there.

I was saved the day I was baptized by a Roman Catholic priest. Whether that holds, is up to me.

That’s what I’d tell them.

And the OP has been banned.
I’m not sure what that has to do with anything. Is there some rule that a discussion can’t be continued if the original poster has been banned?

(And yes, I know the policy about resurrecting threads, but it still has nothing to do with that.)

i say:

I won’t find out that until judgment day, but you really should consider joining Christ’s one and only church if you are worried about salvation instead of following a heretic like martin luther.
Ha! I like this answer!
