Not exactly how I would word it, but yes I suppose that is essentially true. And im not just pulling this stuff out of thin air. All Gnostic Christians believe this as well as many outside of the Christian sphere in other religions. So I don’t deserve the credit of originality that you so kindly flatter me with 😉
😉 noted. This type of thinking is new to me; I’m just not that familiar with present-day Christian Gnosticism. 🙂

  1. As we have exhausted in this thread, I see personal intuition as a better litmus test for spiritual truth than an authoritative institution.
Your private judgment v. the judgment of the Church which received its authority from God.

Gotcha.

There has always been an official teaching on the issue? Are you referring to the Pope’s recent comment: “When I meet a gay person, I have to distinguish between their being gay and being part of a lobby. If they accept the Lord and have goodwill, who am I to judge them? They shouldn’t be marginalized. The tendency [to homosexuality] is not the problem…they’re our brothers”?
I’m referring to gay marriage not homosexuality in general.

I don’t believe that the Church as an institution received its authority from God. I believe that God reveals Himself in personal revelation not an authoritative body.

It’s good that we agree on something 👍

Wait a second! Gnostics are against the Novus Orde Mass? :frighten: The Ultra-Traditionalists agree with the GNOSTICS?!?! :bigyikes: I

Alas, can you tell me how you would define magic?
Haha yes did i just blow your mind???

I would define magic as divinity expressed in a miraculous and esoteric way. But this is not a definitive definition from the Gnostic perspective. I think gnosisofthomas might be able to answer that question better than I.

Does a person have be open to such a personal revelation i.e. how can a person, regardless of religion, open him/herself up to receive said revelations form God?

Thanks for telling me the condensed story of your faith! I can tell that your beliefs are authentic because you arrived at the conclusion that the Catholic Church is the true representation of Christ on earth because you arrived at that conclusion via inductive reasoning (not to take the emotional element out of it). I cannot question anything youve written-except…you said you were apathetic to the question of gay marriage. Are you still? I ask not because I want this thread to devolve into political banter, but because the Magisterium has taken an official position on that issue. Doesn’t that kind of force you to also?
I was apathetic then. I really didn’t care what homosexuals did. I mean, I was raised in a culture where sex is treated like a cheap consumer product. I was as apathetic to the status of homosexuals as I was to the status of mass produced McDonald’s toys (Ok, maybe I cared a little more than that. Gay people are people and toys are not. Still…)

When I accepted the Magisterium in belief, I obviously was against gay “marriage”, especially since I was aware of the natural law’s understanding on the matter. Personally though, I find the obsession some Christian have with the topic disturbing. I mean, from a Catholic point of view, the fact that divorce and contraception are legal is already a problem. Where is all their energy in fighting these? I think that the reason most people don’t see a problem with gay “marriage” is because they don’t see a problem with legal divorce and contraception (especially contraception). Remember, the Anglicans were founded on a divorce (that is a generalization, btw 🙂 ), and contraception was opposed by every major Protestant denomination before the 1930’s (?).

We shouldn’t endanger our souls fighting the LGTB. It’s not like secular marriage is anything like Sacramental Marriage (fun fact: civil marriage did not exist until the late 1800’s. It took the governments of the world less than a century to mess it up. State Education also appeared at the same time. Coincidence? The state messed that up too). We should explain to them why they are wrong, and then go off and pray for them before we angrily argue ourselves into mortal sin.

What do you think of that phrase “man is the measure of all things?” Your philosophy sounds like it agrees with it to a certain extent.

Speaking of magicians aka illusionist: have you ever heard of this guy - David Blaine? This guy blows my mind. All of his illusions are performed out in the open with no props or sets, and I have no idea how he does many of them: youtube.com/watch?v=zr3R1D7GUU8

Oh, my bad. Has the Catholic Church’s teaching deviated in some way, regarding gay marriage?
The concept of gay “marriage” is foreign to every culture throughout history. The closest I found is a ceremony in certain Native American tribes where a transgendered man who was raised as a women because he had a “female spirit.” Even then, the “bride” in question was considered a girl. I haven’t found one culture that has not defined marriage as a relationship between one man and one woman. Do you know any? I’ve been look for exceptions.

I agree. No reason to give the devil ammunition, so to speak: “…for anger gives a foothold to the devil.” Ephesian 4:27

He (or she) did found the thread titled “Ask a Gnostic Anything.” The questions can be about anything, and not be off topic. What’s your favorite color? Do you have any pets? What is your favorite book? Poem? Poet? Sophia is female for “wisdom”, while Christ is male for “anointed one.” Are you a wise Christ or an anointed Sophia? 😛

Good question. :nope:

Like, you, I am pretty apathetic, or should I say neutral on the issue of gay marriage, and it is definitely a novel phenomenon, in my humble opinion. I too defer to the Catholic Church, but tend to lean toward the most recent statement by the pope, who is trying to show understanding in terms of embracing people from all walks of life without actually endorsing it of course; after all Jesus loves everyone and died for everyone. Man, the Pope’s job would be so friggin hard, especially in the 21st century where we see all kinds of changes. LOL…

Homosexual “marriage”, homosexual acts, and homosexual attraction are very different. The first is against Church teachings, and to be “married” in such a ceremony would be a sin. The second is called the sin of Sodomy, since it was one of the reasons (if not the main reason) why Sodom was destroyed. The third can’t be a sin, since feelings (not brought on by an act of will) are not a sin. Homosexual feelings are disordered, in the sense that they attempt to tempt a person into sinful behavior, but so are feelings that make you want to visit the neighbor girl at night 😉

Everyone sins. We are all sinners. A sodomite, a gossiper, an adulterer, a liar, a murderer, a fornicator (my sin of choice). If the Church decided to abandon sinners, there wouldn’t be a Church 😃

👍 And to quote, well someone (can’t remember who said it): hate the sin, not the sinner.

The problem is that many homosexuals play into American identity politics, and thus define their entire being as “homosexual.” So, when someone believes the acts to be wrong, then the homosexual has no choice but to believe that the someone hates them, or mathematically, person=“homo acts”, therefore to hate “homo acts”, one must (as the ideology holds) hate the person as well. It’s quite sad that people fall into this trap 😦

Lord, just as you freed Your people from the bondage of slavery through water,
save those who suffer from disordered attraction through Grace.
We pray Lord: have mercy on us, and spare us,
for there may be 10 righteous men in our nation.
We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.

St. Basil, pray for us.
St. Mary Magdalene, pray for us.
St. Augustine, pray for us.

:amen: Hate mongering, sadly, is here to stay, regardless of what is considered a deviation from the norm. Everyone struggles with something, and I am a firm believer that the Devil and cohort are playing a major role in the battle. I too am a huge fan of the saints (especially seers) e.g. Faustina, Teresa of Avila etc, and they speak to this issue in no uncertain terms.

I am transgendered, and prayers, saints, nothing works and has never worked for me or any single transgendered person in the world. I am going on 68 this year. I failed if you wil to being transgendered at roughly 66 years of age.
Jesus though went with me to the Psychologist. The Trinity was with me after the medical doctor using Medicare gave me my prescriptions. She also does not know why it works, but it does to relieve dysphoria. I was escorted to Mount Angel Abbey by them. There I met a priest who knew of my mystical marriage to God The Father, not Jesus. I asked him if the church had enough information on this, to declare it correct. 'For some of us yes." He said I had to wait for God to prove to the rest of the church that he indeed asked a transgendered girl inside of a man’s body, to marry Him or not. I will wait also, but it is very hard to do this.

You make a compelling statement, as I am also a seer, when you state what Fautina said. I am unfamiliar with what Teresa of Avila said.
Yet, I also know what Augustine said on Limbo. He was later shown to be wrong. It takes more to be right on my issue than merely quoting from people and not God directly. And that has always been the case.
I struggle with this, and if it is wrong, I choose death over submission. I know what the church says. I know what science says. They disagree.
If you could help, and you can’t as no person like me has ever been relieved of this condition long term. On one attempt of mine, I thought it was gone, and posted as such to someone. It was not gone and has never ever been gone long term in anybody. Also all attempts Psychologically have only resulted in a higher percentage of suicides as what doesn’t work and has never ever worked in a single person, also makes them hate themselves.
It’s a tough problem. I can’t crack it. I don’t know of anyone who has. One thing that is curious to me, if God like He did today and has always done in the last fourteen years of my life, allowed me to work for Him supernaturally, then what does that mean? Does it mean maybe, that if God is for me, who can realistically be against me and correct? Or does it mean God is going to lower the hammer on me one day, and send me to hell? He talked to me one day, and I took the question as totally to a girl. So what does that mean? That question and that experience along with others leading up to that, have been submitted to The Roman Catholic Church, and they tell me, I was not fooled, it is Real, that was God, and The Holy Spirit confirmed it to them.
We can get off this subject. I don’t need to talk about it. But, you could if you want start a thread like this one. I am Catholic, Transgendered, and Mystically Married. Ask me anything. I will try and answer you. Do you really want that though. I think not.
Only you can know if God is speaking to you i.e. receiving private revelations. If God is, then I believe that it means - if God is for you then who can realistically be against you. You should start a thread. 👍🙂
