I go to a Church school and let me put in my 2 cents about modesty. I have no problem with it except when it’s used to control. The church and the University I attend use modesty as a way to control its students and it’s members.

I have a tattoo and let me tell you, I had a swim class a few semesters back and I was definitely looked at as a heretic for my tattoo. The church has brainwashed its members into connecting the devil with everything that isn’t “church modest”. I view my body as a temple, just like any other Christian should. Does my tattoo mean i defiled my “temple”? I don’t think so and i’m pretty sure God doesn’t either. The measure of a man’s integrity and “modesty” is on the inside, not the outside. It’s our spiritual body we need to look out for more than our outward appearance. I could be the most perfect looking mormon to walk the face of the earth but if my heart isn’t pure, it’s all for naught. Look on the inside before you look on the outside.

Excellent. Very well said.

No, I don’t think that you are a bad person. I think that the Mormons consider the body to be a temple, and as such, one should not get a tattoo. Most likely because it defaces the temple which is the body. I think that that would be the explanation.
While I agree that our bodies are temples and we should take care of them, I also think tattoo(s) are an expression of ones self. Now if one is getting satanic pictures (devils, demons, etc.) then that’s not good but its that’s persons will. Like the one on my forearm that has a cross, roses and a banner reading “Only God can judge me”, but yet here in Salt Lake, I’m always getting judged. I have one skull on my arm that’s not finished (Dia de los muertos) because its my heritage. Now when you cover your head and face, that’s gross.

I think if Mormons really want to ‘respect their temples’ they should reduce their intake of ice cream and sweets. They are just making an end run around the Word of Wisdom.

I knew a man who was an alcoholic, he just substituted pot and millions of cigarettes for the booze and thought he was clean and sober! Same principle.

BTW I also have tattoes, including the Immaculate Heart and different Celtic crosses. I just turned 58 and I’m not ashamed at all.

I have a question…

Why does the LDS church allow abortion in certain circumstances like incest or rape? Why must there be exceptions?

In addition to that, the church is so strict about its laws about gambling and consuming caffeine, and yet it allows murder in certain circumstances.

The thinking is that since the woman did not make the choice to have sex in the case of rape or incest, she shouldn’t have to suffer the consequences of it. I remember Elder Oaks, one of their apostles, spoke on this subject at BYU in the late 90’s when I was a student there. That was the gist of his argument.

The Mormon church has also not made any official statements addressing when life begins as far as I know. They don’t take a stand on it at all. When I was LDS, I could not accept their policy (or lack thereof) on life or abortion. For me, I always knew that at conception, there is a new, genetically unique life who is 100% innocent and worthy of love and protection.

Who created the universe if God was once a man who lived on earth

People tend to look at first appearances, this is normal human behavior. If I were to be judged on a first appearance I would rather it be from a learned Catholic. All I could do with the others including some Catholics is just love them and say a prayer for them. Life is to short to dwell on this stuff. We have Christ in or lives, its how He looks at us that matters. And I can guarantee you that he looks at you with love beyond our imagination. Tattoos and all else.

I advise to every mormon to read this article in whole, it wil show the evidence why mormonism is false. If you are a mormon and want to follow God no matter what, read this article: mormonismdisproved.org/. Catholicsm is the TRUTH!

I have a quick question. I had the missionaries drop by while I was outside. My name is still in the records, but other than that, no affiliation. It seemed like a drive-by greeting, so I held my tongue until they left. However, I am feeling that this was wrong at several points in the conversation. What do you think?

I advise every Orthodox Christian to read John 17:22 (KJV) …that they may be one, even as we are one

There is no way for this prayer of Jesus to be answered given the current orthodox definition of the Trinity.

I don’t know if this question has already been answered in this thread or another, but don’t Mormons believe that God lives on planet Kolob?

There was a special missionary themed broadcast at the end of June about a new missionary push. They entitled it “Hastening the Work”. Bugging “inactives” is part of it. Since you haven’t resigned, you are still on the list to bother. Your feeling is correct. It was not a random drive-by greeting. They also have a bumper crop of missionaries due to lowering of the required age for men and women. They need something to do.

We haven’t been bothered since we resigned in March. I also suspect the missionaries were told to avoid us based on what we told the stake president and elders quorum president when they did their unannounced visit. You can easily resign by email now. If you are not able to resign yet, you can always mention polyandry or the Book of Abraham to the missionaries and they will put you on their own do not bother list.

Actually, Mormons believe that God lives on an unnamed planet near the star called Kolob.

Hmm, I see no issue with the Trinity and this passage from John. How is it you think Mormon theology (polytheism) answers this? Care to elaborate on the issue? If you are suggesting that they are one in purpose then where does the Trinity confuse that?

Thank you. I hadn’t bothered to resign, it had no impact on my me until now, but I am seriously considering it now. Didn’t know you could do that by email.

and that is your biggest problem…it is the problem behind js. Y’all keep trying to put God into a little box you can understand…hence the “god was once a sinful man”

Sorry, didn’t come across as clear as I hoped. Tex has it covered though.
