So when I make a broad statement about slow evolution of culture and linguistics over thousands of years that is supported by factual evidence its “you cant know that for sure of that” but when its “you cant be sure about a very specific story about a 1st century Judean carpenter that has to be infallible” its a hissy fit? I honestly cant read you? are you just here to try and troll or do you come here with real purpose?
I can’t read him either… 🤷

I do not get the point of inter-faith argument or debate. It all boils down to this:

We believe we are right.
You believe you are right.
We can’t prove we are right.
You can’t prove you are right.

What’s the point?

It’s obvious that you aren’t going to convince us we are wrong. We aren’t going to convince you that you are wrong. It’s a waste of time.

This thread is nothing but this:

Pagans trying to poke holes in Catholic theology.
Catholics trying to convince pagans that they are being led astray by lies of Satan.

In the end it just dissolves into personal attacks.

I see nothing being gained from this discussion.

That’s why its so important. Frankly when I personally poke holes to see how people rise to the occasion. Respectfully and logically answering, knowing where I stand, leads to better understanding on my part. If Christians drop the Satan thing for five minutes they might at least respect us as much as Buddhists or Hindus.

Just cause I disagree with you, doesn’t mean I don’t respect you. Here’s the plain and simple truth. Catholics believe you are wrong. Not only that, they believe you are being led astray. They believe your soul is in danger. Some may come across as condescending, full of hubris and self-righteousness, but that doesn’t change the fact that they truly believe you are in danger.

Someone admitted the lack of definite knowledge!!! Now we can have productive discussion!!!
Easy, big fella.

All I’ve admitted is the need to build my case for Christianity slowly and carefully…one step at a time…for the benefit of others.

In my experience just sharing information would be more beneficial to that goal than bible-banging. Probably won’t work but if its that important to you…

Personally, and i mean this with absolutely no insult intended, I would go with the first option. The knowledge of mental health in 1st century Judea was almost non existent. And again I dont mean that as a insult.
I’m not offended. But then, I’m not the one you need to worry about. :o

So, when you read the Gospels…Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount or His clever interactions with the Scribes and Pharisees who accused Him of being of the devil, for example, do His words sound like the ravings of a madman to you?

Seriously, you mentioned that you may have had a Christian education up through high school, but how long has it been since you actually read the Words of Jesus for yourself instead of catching bits and pieces online here and there? 🤷

First, I am, again, a gal. (Do I come off as masculine? 🤷 )
Anyway. You acknowledged that there is more than one interpretation which is great!

Well for me it was last week at all school mass and I see her point. 😃

I don’t bible-bang, and I don’t recall bible-banging in this thread. What’s the point of information sharing. The information is there for you to read and research, by people who are far better defenders of the faith then me. It’s obvious that you aren’t interested in converting to Catholicism, it’s obvious that you aren’t sincerely interested in the Catholic faith. You are secure in your beliefs. It seems to me like you are just trying to poke holes in Catholic theology and extolling your beliefs above ours. I see hubris in this thread. If you are sincerely interested in the Catholic faith then I will answer any questions to the best of my ability in a spirit of love and compassion. But I am no professional apologist. But seeing as this an Ask A Pagan thread I will ask you some questions.

What is the chief deity you worship? Is he/she part of a pantheon? What is his relation to the other gods in this pantheon? What led you to him/her? How do you worship him/her? Do you observe any holy days?

I do like to read and learn about other religions and faiths. I have to admit that I especially like reading about the occult. I read a lot about ceremonial magic, Hermeticism, Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, Crowley, etc. Basically the Western Magical Tradition. I haven’t read a lot about Wicca and Witchcraft because that truly does not interest me.

I’m going to be the Catholic stickler here and just point out that there is not more than one interpretation of the Gospels. There is the official interpretation of the Church and that’s it.

But their spirit guides or gods seem so nice…

First, my apologies on the gender thing. Your screen name is vague, and apologetics argumentation is largely a guy thing…girls don’t generally have the stomach for it, ya know? Kinda like chess…some play, but not many.

Second, I am happy to concede for sake of discussion that there is more than one interpretation…but only for as long as it takes me to slam the door on all those interpretations which are improbable or demonstrably false. Don’t mistake my willingness to explore possibilities as acceptance of them all as equally likely.

So, easy, big girl. You may not be so chipper when I’m done. 😛

The God I’m closest to is Loki.
I think he is Aesir (the Norse Gods) because he is the blood brother of Odin. I say “I think” because Loki is a figure of dispute in Asatru and I don’t know if Skadi and Gullveig agree with me. 🙂
His relation? (4.bp.blogspot.com/–2KM9Pi062M/Tk2_PpOUf1I/AAAAAAAAAFY/fFsHdI8ptLE/s1600/NORSE+CRISIS+FLOW+CHART.jpg) WARNING there is one potty word. Loki is a complex figure who gets the other Gods in and out of trouble A LOT.

What led me to him? The film Avengers much to my embarrassment. HOWEVER, it made things harder rather than easier. I was like being erm… attracted to Jesus to put it in perspective. Marvel!Loki is very different from the God. He behaves more like a father figure towards me for starters.

How do I worship the Gods? The best I can given the constraint that my parents FORBID it. I really can only light digital candles, leave a portion of my meal for them, and pray to them.

For feast days go to worship. 🙂 (its a no btw)

Especially since they picked the Gospels they liked. 😃
