He came to a Catholic forum and opened a Q and A thread about his faith - Satanism - a faith that is diametrically opposed to everything we stand for as Christians. He was then given quotes from one source that was different than what he proposes.

Instead of attempting to rebut the source’s claims, he began a rant that included post 95,103,107,112,114 wherein the poster was called a disease, a lesser creature and a host of other things. He had ample opportunity to refute the claims, but instead insulted people.

He was not treated uncharitably, but instead reverted to his faith of “instead of turning the other cheek, smash the other cheek” towards others. If Selkis goes to hell (which I don’t think he will) it will be because of his own choice to do so, unless you know something that we don’t.

Who gave you the right to judge your brothers and sisters? Go to confession yourself.

Yes, that is a rumor I have heard. Crowley has had some influence on Wicca, as many others besides Gardner has, but Crowley’s style of occultism is really perverted and sick to me. Some of the things Crowley did…shudders. But whether he wrote any rituals or not is an unconfirmed rumor, so I no one really knows.

In fact, Crowley eventually was booted out of the Golden Dawn! He did not work well with others.

Thanks MW! I always like hearing other’s point of view, even if I do not fully agree with them. Right now I am trying to find people who converted to Catholicism and find what drew then so much to it. I’m reading The Seven Storey Mountain by Thomas Merton. I really like it so far, but I’m only about a quarter way through. Even though I disagree with many Catholic issues, I still like certain parts of the faith.

You’re welcome. I think we each have to understand where the other is coming from - their worldview. My experiences will be different from yours because everyone’s journey is a bit different. But, at the end of the day, I believe in God’s mercy and forgiveness for all of us.

Where we fail to understand, He will help us. Where we fail to live according to His will, He will chasten us. Coming from a Christian and Buddhist background I do have an open mind. I enjoy Thomas Merton a lot.

Where I am today spiritually does not allow me to agree with what you have posted, but either way I do hope that we can have some discussions going forward and learn from each other along the way. God works in mysterious ways and I don’t want to hinder His guidance.

What is your problem with LaRock? are you insulted because he might be correct with his commments? The fact you have Satanist in your religious title is alone enough to associate you with Satan and being a follower of his, you just don’t seem to be aware you really are. Satan is the master of illusion, and I think Selkis he has used you to be a front for his illusion. He uses people Selkis, and then he ditches them to their fate.

Why would practicing Catholics be interested in what you have to say? What was your true purpose for coming onto this site? So people can learn about your religion? It isn’t even a religion. You simply don’t believe in God. But Catholics do.

Satan will attempt to deceive people that God does not exist. Whether you believe in Satan or not, you have been deceived somewhere in your upbringing that God does not exist.

Instead of trying to teach people why you believe in what you do, why don’t you be a bit brave and stick around to actually learn why Catholics believe in Christ and the existence of God. Using the excuse that you feel insulted is the coward’s way out of blinding yourself to the opportunity to believe.

Christians and Catholics get insulted all the time, but we generally stick it out because we have a belief and faith in a higher being and took a chance and believed. And for most Christians that chance to believe has paid off in being fulfilled in ways you haven’t given yourself a chance to experience.

I shall pray that God converts your heart and that you take a chance to believe, because believing will cost you nothing, it doesn’t hurt, but it is a chance worth taking.

I know I said I wouldn’t post on this thread again, but I can’t help myself.

The notion that satan isn’t an actual entity that they worship is nothing more than a marketing campaign used by LaVey and company to lure people into their church. It’s like when Jehovah’s Witnesses claim they didn’t predict the end of the world in 1975.

Personally, I love all these so-called experts on Satanism. I wonder how many have really sat down and actually learned anything about it, or the people who involve themselves in it. You certainly don’t need to accept it, or approve of it, but please don’t go slinging your “facts” (personal opinions) around.

I grew up near LaVey’s “Black House” in San Francisco.

At first I thought that it was scary, but after awhile seeing the LaVey’s and the people in the house, all us kids thought it was rather sad and stupid.

We were always disappointed that this “House of Satan” gave out such bad candy at Halloween.

Had another thought about this thread. Richard Wang, you see this all as silly and as products of new age conmen and I agree to a certain extent.
But it’s not silly because these false prophets are misleading people and thwarting them from their right to know God, love God and serve God.

The Pastor that runs that site interviewed Susan Atkins himself about this issue. Atkins was afiliated with LaVey, and is now serving a life term in prison for her roll in the Charles Manson slayings. She told Pastor Schimmel that LaVey confided in her that he did worship satan as an actual entity, and only used the idea that satan is used symbolically to lure people in.

We do know the real truth love, he is called Christ. You want us to know the real truth about your religion? How about you stop being a child yourself and stick around to hear about our religion.

I think inside you there is someone who is wondering if there is more to life then what he was raised to believe. Someone who is seeking to understand what pulls his best friend back to Catholicism.

You are seeking, but you can’t aknowledge it because that means wondering if what you have been taught by your family and your religion isn’t the truth and is possibly there is more to life. Reflection is painful and we can shy away from it.

We’ve reflected and found the truth. We are more then happy to share our experiences of the truth of Christ and God and what brought us to that truth.

Suck your pride in angel, many of us here have had to do that ourselves in order to be prepared to learn and find fulfillment and love in God.

A few insults from others, if you can call some of them insults can’t drive you psychotic, but constant inner denial can make you a bit balmy.

Satan when he doesn’t get his own way likes to then turn and insult. Don’t find yourself falling down to his level. We each can have darkness in ourselves that leads to uncharitability and childish behaviour and insults, and you Selkis have in your various posts proven yourself to have displayed those traits, so please do not then turn and say others are childish and insulting.

If you wish to call yourself mature, then please start to act it. If you don’t want a chance at fulfillment and to learn more about why we believe in God, then yes go away and stay away and the best we can do here is pray the Lord will find a way to convert you and bring you to knowledge of God. Because I don’t like seeing my fellow Catholics bicker due to your postings. Because I’ve seen that and one thing I know about evil and Satan is he will cause antagonism amoung Christians in order to divide us. No one here should be falling into that trap. But we can pray for Selkis and we can share with him some experiences and some understanding and teaching as to why God exists and why we believe in Christ and why we are Catholic.

Did I imply you are evil? I simply stated that by default you are being used by Satan, who is evil but likes to pose under many illusions. We all have a dark side that evil can manipulate Selkis, the trick is to not be tempted to do so. Stop focusing on LaRock. You have to also take some responsibility for your own behaviour and insults and aknowledge those. Are you not somehow trying to get people to bend to your mindset? This is not about tearing down what you believe in. This is about getting you to see that what you believe in isn’t necessarily the truth. We don’t agree with you. That does not make us bad people. At the moment if I asked if you believe in God and you said no he doesn’t exist, does that mean I then can retaliate and accuse you of trying to tear down all I believe in? At the moment you and most others here have differing beliefs. That does not mean we can’t learn to be charitable towards you, and it doesn’t mean you can’t also learn somethings from us. People learn from each other. Negative experiences can also be positive, just as positive experiences can be positive. There are some of us who might need to be more hospitable and I think you also need to learn some things about charity and why we believe what we believe. Most people here have an understanding of evil and believe Satan exists and he is evil and he influences and tempts others to be evil. As someone who has seen him, I can assure you he does exist. Now you might think I am mental, and that is your choice. Naturally as people who believe Satan is evil and does in fact exist, you are going to find most people aren’t too happy with you having Satanist in your religious title. I would much prefer at the moment to simply view you as someone who does not believe in God and you view me and others as people who do believe in God, and you can explain why you think God does not exist and we can explain why we believe God exists. You try and watch your tongue and we shall try and watch ours. However even Christians find that difficult because we are humans too. We all can get hotheaded, be tempted and do make insulting statements, but, what you might view as insulting and what I might view as insulting, not everyone does. We all have to learn to to have some fortitude. You have to learn not to be so easily insulted, and we also have to learn not to be so easily insulted. Part of growing up means letting some things wash off us. Your beliefs system and religion is going to ruffle some feathers and you must be mature enough to aknowledge that. And some of our words and beliefs and teachings might ruffle your feathers. When people let ruffled feathers get in the way of learning, then that learning stagnates.

You are going to have to be prepared that because this is a Christian and Catholic forum, that majority here aren’t going to believe what you believe and accept what you believe. If I went onto a site for your religion and started telling why I believe what I believe, what do you think the response would be? I asure you, a few F off’s would most likely be the case, but then maybe I am assuming too much.

You have made some postings on why you believe or don’t believe what you do and why. Would you like people to share their experiences and beliefs system with you? If you aren’t interested in hearing our side of things and only posting yours, then there is no point in you hanging around. But if you do hang around, feel free to ask us some questions and allow people here to show you the other side of a belief system.

Don’t pray for my conversion, brother. I’m already converted (you can pray for my continuing conversion and my growing closer and closer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ). I do not buy into this nonsense. This is simply what LeVeyan Satanists believe. Why do you automatically assume, just because I explain what LeVeyan Satanists believe, that I am one of them. I am a devout Catholic.

Apparently this person assumed I supported LeVeyan Satanism and that I believed in it too. I just want to make clear that I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT. I have already sent him a private message expressing my anger about this. He tried to misrepresent me. Apparently he thinks if someone knows anything about another religion that he adheres to that religion. That could not be farther from the truth. I apologize if I have created a scandal, but all of the information I have gathered about LeVeyan Satanism I have gleaned off of Wikipedia.

Also, if this kind of slander is common on this forum…I want to let everyone know right now that I intend on leaving. I will not be slandered and disrespected in this way…and I am angered beyond comprehension by this gross presumption made by this person. I expect a formal public apology.
