ASK FATHER: Do I Have To Say “Amen” For Weird Prayers of the Faithful at Mass?

I think I would assert that they’re the prayers of the person who wrote them up . We, as the faithful, pray them in good faith, expecting them to be fundamentally and theologically sound…
UNIVERS

Just like I do, I am sure that all churches use a resource for any particular weekday, Sunday, or Holy Day. When I do not like some wording of a particular suggestion, I avoid it. I might try to rewrite it, but am very careful. I never think of them as “the prayers of the person (me) who wrote them up.” Every Missal program out there has their own resource and I also have a soft cover book for all Sundays and HDs.
Here is the one I wrote from suggestions from our Missal program for this weekend:

UNIVERSAL PRAYER
The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ
06.03.18

PRIEST/DEACON:

GATHERED TOGETHER AS THE BODY OF CHRIST, WE OFFER OUR PRAYERS TO GOD, CONFIDENT THAT WE WILL BE HEARD.

DEACON/LECTOR:

A. FOR THE CHURCH AROUND THE WORLD, THAT WE WILL CONTINUE TO BUILD UP THE BODY OF CHRIST AS WE GIVE WITNESS TO OUR FAITH,
LET US PRAY TO THE LORD: Lord, hear our prayer.

B. FOR LEADERS OF ALL NATIONS, THAT THEY WILL FIND JUST WAYS TO SETTLE DISPUTES WITH OTHER COUNTRIES AND AMONG THEIR OWN CITIZENS,
LET US PRAY TO THE LORD: Lord, hear our prayer.

C. FOR THOSE WHO HAVE DIED (may mention name of deceased mass intention here), AND FOR THOSE WHO ARE MOURNING THE LOSS OF A LOVED ONE. MAY THEY FIND COMFORT IN OUR LOVING GOD,
LET US PRAY TO THE LORD: Lord, hear our prayer.

D. FOR THOSE WHO CANNOT BE HERE TO WORSHIP WITH US: THE SICK, THE HOMEBOUND, THOSE IN PRISONS AND THOSE SERVING IN THE MILITARY. MAY GOD BRING THEM PEACE AND CONSOLATION,
LET US PRAY TO THE LORD: Lord, hear our prayer.

E. FOR THOSE WHO SUFFER FROM MALNUTRITION AND HUNGER, THAT THEY WILL BE PROVIDED SUSTENANCE FROM THE BOUNTY OF THE EARTH,
LET US PRAY TO THE LORD: Lord, hear our prayer.

F. FOR ALL OF US HERE TODAY, THAT THE NOURISHMENT WE RECEIVE IN THE EUCHARIST WILL STRENGTHEN US IN OUR DAILY LIVES,
LET US PRAY TO THE LORD: Lord, hear our prayer.

G. FOR ALL THE PRAYERS THAT WE HOLD IN THE SILENCE OF OUR HEARTS; FOR ALL OUR INTENTIONS SPOKEN AND UNSPOKEN,
LET US PRAY TO THE LORD: Lord, hear our prayer.

PRIEST/DEACON:

GRACIOUS GOD, YOUR SON OFFERED HIS BODY AND BLOOD TO REDEEM US IN OUR SINFULNESS AND TO NOURISH US AS WE CONTINUE HIS MISSION. MAY WE BE STRENGTHENED IN THIS HOLY EUCHARIST AS WE MAKE THESE PRAYERS TO YOU. WE ASK THIS IN THE NAME OF YOUR SON, OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST.

C, D and G are part of the Universal Prayer every week. I don’t think any are questionable.

Here, Kitty Kitty Kitty! (Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)
I SO want such a pet to perform a little attitude adjustment on all of the coddled/babied/spoiled dogs being walked in Seattle. “Don’t show Fluffy any fear! Cats can sense fear ya’ know!!!”

You might need a bigger target on your back there, to make it more sporting for the libs. Dont see too many of them up at the range, practicing.
Maybe something like this?(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

I live up here too…not to hijack, but they really need to start enforcing some sort of law on “therapy animals” because I get sick of people thinking they can take their dogs to the thrift store, Target, and the grocery store just because they want to - and up here it’s like some sort of infection spreading like wildfire.

I’d be pleased as Punch to walk around with that mountain lion. "Oh, no, she’s a sweet girl."
🤣🤣🤣

Ugh. Rant over. LOL back to the thread.

Well, as to the prayers of the faithful, they should go against our will and be aligned with God’s will. That means no politics, no activism. Just love of brother and sister. Is that too much to ask?

Somebody tried to get their “therapy peacock” onto a flight not too long ago, yes?

One day when we are all dead someone may think it is weird to pray for the souls in Purgatory. I think you should pray for other peoples intentions so that when other people are asked to pray for you they will feel inclined to do so and they will be heard.

Just like I do, I am sure that all churches use a resource for any particular weekday, Sunday, or Holy Day.
You would be mistaken, then. Not all do. In more than a few parishes, someone in the parish makes them up from scratch. 😉
