Asking all priests: Why not talk about the hard issues at Mass?

I’d rather hear something spiritually practical at Mass.

The strong, age-old centripetal forces that keep Orthodox Jewish identity intact are utterly lacking in the Traditonalist sub-world, and it’s going to take more than their common dislike of Muslims and the LGBT community, and of non-Traditionalist Catholics, to hold them together.

Isn’t that rather harsh if not uncharitable, isn’t there more to Traditionalist Catholicism than disliking others? For example, don’t others find it more authentic and richer and fitting to their taste? Like no offense to other Catholics, they find a community that values what they value like the Liturgy? I feel you’re being rather harsh even if some traditionalists may be harsh too.

Agree. That’s an extremely uncharitable view of traditionalist Catholics. What I think binds traditional Catholics together is their love of the old ways of the Catholic Church because they feel those liturgies were more solemn and hence more holy and special.

It’s also a ridiculous assumption that everybody who likes traditional practice shares a “common dislike of Muslims and the LGBT community”. I go to TLM sometimes, I like old Marian devotions and many aspects of the pre-Vatican II church, and I don’t have any dislike of Muslims or LGBT community. I’m sure I’m not alone. We just don’t tend to shout as loud as the negative Nancies because we’re at church to pray, not express bias.
