Asking all priests: Why not talk about the hard issues at Mass?

I don’t think so.

SRE focuses on exploring the emotional, social and physical aspects of growing up, having relationships, engaging in sex, and learning about human sexuality and sexual health.

I’m not so sure that a kindergartener should be knowing these things. At least until middle school would be more appropriate when they have some sort of self awareness and maturity.

I don’t know what age middle school is, I’d you could enlighten me I’d be grateful. I disagree, teaching needs to start early, ideally before they happen. For example, what’s the point of teaching about the changes that occur during puberty after they’ve occured?

The big deal in corporate America today is to eliminate jobs. Make fewer people do more work. 🤹‍♂️🤹‍♀️
Of course, these people do not make more, they just work more hours.
Therefore, the company makes more money. 💰💰💰

Around 11-14 years-old.

That’s different from where babies come from. There’s just a few things that need to explained, but that’s it.

And if 70% of the economy in the US relies on working people, what do giant corporations and home builders think will happen when they are put out of work? Will I buy anything on Amazon? No.

To go with that you’ve also got the rise in AI and automation, combined with current climate crisis, and a breakdown in political systems and it would be reasonable to conclude that there’s a perfect storm coming. If the gap in wealth inequality keeps increasing at its current rate then imho it’s not a matter of if there’ll be a revolution, it’s a question of what will the revolutionaries coalesce around, race or class.

These are things that should be discussed. Why not a Mass about what could be a working-class disaster ahead?

I’d imagine most priests don’t know too much about economics like most people.

It’s not my experience. I am tired of hearing about sexual morality, and am very tired of the thinking that it’s the only topic that matters. A quick wander round CAF shows us that many folk, and many Christians, don’t care about the poor and believe that poverty and mental illness are somehow self inflicted. But are fixated on sexual morality.
I don’t recall ever coming across this attitude to the poor, poverty and mental illness on CAF. What are the topics or categories where you see this frequently expressed?

To preach and to counsel and to support the people of a parish, a priest should have a good understanding of what their daily headaches and worries are, shouldn’t they?

It’s impossible to know everything and a priest hardly has the power to do a significant change to the economy and make things better.

There is a populous movement. Those people swung to Trump in 2016. But they easily could swing to the Democratic Party in 2020.
Jobs. Affordable health care. And security. These are the important issues.

But priests are there to help bring us closer to God. Jesus Christ understood the worries of the poor.

Jesus concerned Himself with many issues and it takes time to become a completely faithful model.
