I think as a mystic, Faustina, is indeed something of a special case. However, there were times in her spiritual journey when she felt the absence of God and a profound silence for an extended period of time. I thinkI’ve actually thought about this a bit lately, reading St. Faustina’s diary. I know she actually asked for a few signs from God, so that she would know if she truly was seeing Jesus in her visions or not. He did grant her these signs, every time she asked for them. I was thinking, maybe in her case it was an exception? Only because she was the Apostle of Mercy and had so many responsibilities given to her, so that she would know she was truly doing God’s will.
