Asking for private signs

That passage is REALLY popular with the prosperity gospel folks. They are always “Lorwejus put this fleece before you”…

I’ve actually thought about this a bit lately, reading St. Faustina’s diary. I know she actually asked for a few signs from God, so that she would know if she truly was seeing Jesus in her visions or not. He did grant her these signs, every time she asked for them. I was thinking, maybe in her case it was an exception? Only because she was the Apostle of Mercy and had so many responsibilities given to her, so that she would know she was truly doing God’s will.

I was thinking about this when I saw your post. I’ve often said I’m laying my fleece down when I’m asking God for a sign. Thanks.

I think as a mystic, Faustina, is indeed something of a special case. However, there were times in her spiritual journey when she felt the absence of God and a profound silence for an extended period of time. I think
God really talks to each one of us in quite different ways.

Misstherese,

If you do not mind me asking, what became of your asking for a sign if you were to become a nun?

Were the two zebra incidents just coincidences?

This happens to me, but they’re not like religious or spiritual related, and not signs that I asked for. Perhaps just coincidences.

One Sunday we attended a dinner party at this particular restaurant. The next day, I saw a waiter from that restaurant walking in front of me. He was wearing the resto’s shirt. It’s not a chain restaurant, probably just one branch.

Last September I won a bag from a raffle at a party. One day I was at the mall and I thought of checking out the brand of that bag. A group of young men passed by, talking about going to that same store.

Weird incidents, but they don’t seem to have a religious significance? These weren’t things I looked for, they just happened.

I know that people cross our path not by coincidence and that we should be open to talking
with many.Interactions are so often a blessing and it’s wonderful to both take away from that, something
helpful in life.Moods, being busy, self conscious can get in the way of giving acknowledgment and a smile and possibly
engaging in talking.Or just plain forgetting to as I do 🙂
I guess you could try starting up a conversation in those cases, something in common already

A desire has grown in me to become a nun, and I have a firm feeling that that is what God wants me to do.

It didn’t feel like a coincidence; it felt like it was planned for me to see those things.
