Rome, Italy, May 14, 2010 / 12:03 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- Two Moroccan students who attended a university in the central Italian city of Perugia were expelled from the country last month after it was discovered that they were conspiring to kill Pope Benedict. One of them allegedly said he wished to “earn a place in Paradise.”

According to Italian weekly newspaper Panorama, conversations intercepted by Italian authorities led to the arrest and deportation of the two suspects.

Thank God this was prevented!
 
I’d query about the explusion though. Was it a wise decision to let loose people who, no doubt, would still intend to do harm?

I wish they had enprisoned these students! This just gives them an opportunity to try again in a different way 😦

I wonder if Our Lady of Fatima had a hand in this? It’s probable she helped protect JPII, and this is rather close to BXVI’s visit to Fatima.
 
I had to read the article as it sounded so absurd that they would just be deported. Like what others said, they could reenter Italy secretly and try to carry it out. Considering the lax security that the Pope has, does anyone think it could not happen? Not to sound ethnocentric, but how could Italians have such a pathetic understanding of terrorism.
 
The mainstream media has a habit of reporting everything about the church. I’m actually surprised they aren’t telling us what Pope Benny’s shoe size is. But when the Pope is victimized, they just ignore it.

My question is: why were these ‘students’ allowed into Italy to supposedly ‘study’ in the first place? Aren’t there any universities in their own countries where they can attend courses?

It is quite common for various nations to allow people into their nation to study. Unfortunately, we just often are not careful enough.
