Yep:thumbsup: “Houston, we have a problem.” Jay LenoSigh. You just know that Jay Leno and the other late-night comedians are going to get a lot of mileage out of this one.
I don’t know that this type of publicity is gonna do an awful lot of good for the Space Station program though :nope:C. It’s about time we got a little spice to our space program. Enough of these clean-living, role model types.
It’s a shame that a prominent Catholic woman fell apart like this. I hope that she finds some good spiritual guidance. A lot of young people look up to her and she has let them down, not to mention her own family, which must be devastated. We should keep her in our prayers.
You are so right about the need for her to be in a mental hospital. I don’t think she is a threat to anyone but herself. The other woman lives in Florida and has a restraining order and Capt. Nowak has one of those court mandated tracking devices on her ankle. The charge of attempted murder may be a real stretch. Perhaps even the attempted kidnapping. We put so many things in the law enforcement arena that should be mental cases. Mental patients can be separated from society to protect people. Sadly, in most cases the sick person is so poor that they just get run through the court system and sent to prison.I am very concerned that Lisa Nowak is running around a free woman. I think she is a danger to herself and others, and desperately needs to be in a mental hospital.
A $25,000 bond is rather light for this.

She’s not ‘running around’ - she is fitted with a GPS tracking device, her whereabouts are known at all times. There is no indication that she is a danger to anyone apart from her intended victim, who is presumably, along with Nowak herself, under police protection/surveillance.I am very concerned that Lisa Nowak is running around a free woman. The media didn’t “tear her down”, she tore herself down. Here’s another thought I heard on talk radio this week. Is this the desctruction of one of America’s last pure role models - the astronaut? Is it only a matter of time before all role models are torn down by the media? Is the “role model” idea a thing of the past?
Besides the fact that the media are camped out on her front lawn right now and she and her family are inside with all the blinds drawn. I doubt she’ll be “running” anywhere for a while. She’s not ‘running around’ - she is fitted with a GPS tracking device, her whereabouts are known at all times. Well, here behavior by itself destroyed her career, plus the fact that it would be reported nationally because she is a public figure. But how big a story is it? It’s getting as much or more airtime as the day’s events in Iraq. The media didn’t “tear her down”, she tore herself down.
Some of the responses he got were interesting, everything from “slow news day” to “we love to tear down our heroes to make ourselves feel bigger.”. . . .
I realize the story represents a sort of perfect storm of media stickiness — a female perp *and *a female victim, lust, revenge, NASA, pepper spray, and of course the *diaper *– but I have to confess that I am overwhelmed that this has become such a round-the-clock story. Who cares, and why? They were even talking about the story on the two ESPN shows I saw pieces of last night (SportsCenter and Pardon the Interruption); in each case, the anchors sheepishly acknowledged that the story had zero to do with sports but … they simply couldn’t resist. But why? Forgive me if I’ve got a thick skull on this one, but can anyone explain why this story has blown up so big and so fast?
