At Assumption Mass--did your parish have a tithe collection?

Mine didn’t. We went to the vigil mass last night, and I had my check ready–no basket. I remember last year there being a collection.

How about yours?

No Mass, no collection. Here in Canada it wasn’t a Holy Day of Obligation.

No, we don’t do that on Holy Days of Obligation. On Sundays and Vigil Masses we only have one collection, before the Offertory. Our priests don’t wish to disturb the sanctity of the Mass and the prayerfulness of the people any more than necessary.

They did not. It was an EF mass, though, and I’ve never seen a collection done at any mass but Sunday masses there.

Our Parish had envelopes for Feast of the Assumption, and they passed the baskets for a collection (they did not limit it to tithes, they would take any percentage 😃 ).

I went to a neighboring parish and they said their collect for today went to the poor…I do have an envelope from my own parish, so I am not sure how it was handled…

Interesting–some parishes had no collection. Well, I took the check, and put it in the offering slot, next to Mary’s statue, where we lit candles for various prayer petitions. I hope it was ok to put a check in there:blush: --I had no cash on me.

No collection. The number of people there at 6:30 am was scarcely more than a regular daily Mass.

Our former pastor would pass the basket on HDO, as well as have the cantor and organist there at 6:30 am. I was amazed that anyone could sing at that hour of the day!

The title of the thread is concerning. Catholics are not obligated to tithe, i.e. give 10% of their income.

Answer to the question, no, my parish only has collections on Sundays and Christmas.

They did at the 9:30 Mass at Assumption Grotto. Since I decided to go at the last minute, I forgot to write the check and put it in the envelope. Will put it in today.

I do have an envelope for Assumption (they don’t call it a tithe; that isn’t Catholic doctrine). My church will have to wait until Sunday to get that envelope, though. Since yesterday was a work day, I had to attend Mass at a parish where I work. 😃 They didn’t have a collection.

Yes, we did. We also had a baptism and the annual Feast of the Assumption party afterwards.

Yes, my home parish takes a collection at every Holy Day Mass, as well as all Masses on Sunday and the Monday thru Saturday noon Mass.

I assisted at a neighboring parish Solemn Gregorian High Mass on the Feast of the Assumption. They took a collection as well.

It was a beautiful Mass.

Last year we did, and I didn’t take an envelope or check for the collection. This year I couldn’t find an envelope for the day, so I used the Mercy fund envelope. Then we didn’t have a collection, but the priest put baskets on the back table for us to give to on the way out. So I put the mercy fund envelope/check in there.

It’s very confusing. Some hdo’s we do have collections, some we don’t. I wish they would put envelopes if they are going to collect.

My church did - they will sometimes have collections on ordinary weekdays too (I think it may actually be regularly, but at the one Mass time that I don’t normally go to).
