At Assumption Mass--did your parish have a tithe collection?

We had a collection. In fact, most parishes in my diocese have a collection during Holy Days of Obligation. Heck, my former rector had a collection durng nuptial Masses celebrated after the Parish anticipated Sunday Mass.

We got the envelopes, but there was no collection at the Vigil Mass on Thursday. I just put that envelope in the basket right next to my Sunday envelope.

Mine did. I didn’t know we would have one, so I put the envelope in Sunday’s basket.

No collection. I go to a mission church on Sunday and since they do not have daily Mass I went to the main church for Mass on Friday. No collection and not very many people there for a HDO.

That may have been because it was not announced at Mass the Sunday before and it was also not in the bulletin. I only realized it after looking at my calendar.

The Little Sisters of the Poor were at the back after church, requesting – and receiving – alms to assist in their ministry to the elderly.

We had envelopes for a collection, but no collection occurred. Everyone just gave Father their envelopes as we exited church. I was just happy to find my lost umbrella in lost and found.

I cantor at one church during the school year, but go to a neighborhood church from June to September. It happened to be named Assumption! There was no collection on Friday, but the previous Sunday I went to the TLM and there was no collection then either. I’m certain there were collections back in the 50s and 60s when I was going to Latin Mass every Sunday. I went to the regular 10:30am NO on Sunday and there was a collection then.

We were at a parish in the town we were vacationing in, which had a collection. Our home parish typically has a collection on Sundays and Holy Days. too.

I’ve never heard it called a tithe collection before!

The title of the thread is concerning. Catholics are not obligated to tithe, i.e. give 10% of their income.

Answer to the question, no, my parish only has collections on Sundays and Christmas.

Jim
We did not, but the next parish over (where kids and grandkids go) did. They never miss a chance to collect. They are building a new church.

One of the kids fusses every time she gets her collection envelopes in the mail. There are as many “extras” (school, building fund, holy days, etc.) as there are regular Sunday envelopes. :o
