I would also love to see Pope St John Paul II elevated to Doctor of the Church as a gesture of this year that examines the meaning of family and marriage !!
 
I think that the Catholic Church has been lucky to have a run of Popes for the past 150 years or so (from Blessed Pius IX on) who were good and holy men, even if they had personality quirks (e.g. Pius XI’s temper). It would not surprise me if someday all the popes from Leo XIII to Benedict XVI who have not already been raised to the altars were at least beatified. (And perhaps Francis too, if things continue well… ;)) It may take centuries, but I think that it is possible.

As for Blessed Paul VI, I have long been intrigued by him. I think that he is a fascinating figure: to be a man of such deep inner joy despite seemingly suffering from clinical depression… He had a heavy cross to bear – and he bore it well. May he pray for us! :byzsoc:
