Always to yourself, but regardless of how many other people or things are around.

Your surroundings have nothing to do with your importance to yourself. Thus the arguments that claim that because you are such a very small member of the entire universe, you are unimportant, actually are non-sequetor and irrelevant to “importance”.
And your surroundings or the vastness of the universe have nothing to do with your importance to God.

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.”

I agree. But does your importance not depend on the fact that you are a person? Some people don’t think they are important in any way. Does that mean they are not important?

We didn’t know the stars were uncountable until just recently, but scripture told us that thousands of years ago.
Funny hey. Or how the Bible says first there was nothing then Wham there was every thing. Of course science has only just caught up with this news with the (big bang theory). Or how if we didn’t keep our wounds/hands cleans micro organisims could enter our body and make us sick. HMM When did medical sceince work this out? i Wonder when? I know there are jewish texts (religous) that mentions this problem thousands of years ago.

its his pattern, when he is cornered, instead of facing the irrationality of his position, he dodges or leaves a thread to protect his cherished belief. he doesnt seem interested in the truth so much protecting his cherished belief at all costs.
Don’t we all do this? The Big Questions have a way of bringing people to this state of mind. Everyone who is part of philosophical discourse has turf to defend. If I don’t have people challenging my positions with their strongly-held countervailing opinions, then I can’t grow and it is a dead exercise. Thank God for those who come here and bang heads with the Christian worldview. As long as they are respectful (something that is problematic on both sides), bring it on. The discussion is intoxicating.

Right…
Don’t let cattle graze with other kinds of Cattle (Leviticus 19:19)
Don’t have a variety of crops on the same field. (Leviticus 19:19)
Don’t wear clothes made of more than one fabric (Leviticus 19:19)
Don’t cut your hair nor shave. (Leviticus 19:27)
Any person who curseth his mother or father, must be killed. (Leviticus 20:9) Have you ever done that?
If a man cheats on his wife, or vise versa, both the man and the woman must die. (Leviticus 20:10).
etc etc etc
Yes, they were so enlightened back then that they noticed getting dirt in wounds made them turn red and start to rot and made up a story about creation. The Jewish desert people’s myths are surely what we should be basing our modern standards on.

yep… airtight. i guess there is no God. we can’t let this get out.

someone better silence dawkins because how is the church going to make money once all the dupes hear this!

i’m confident that dawkins doesn’t make a dime from his athesitic books. he’s doing this for the betterment of mandkind.

In the beginning - time
God created the heavens - space
and the earth - matter

Only recently did science come to this understanding. The conundrum - either the authors were good guessers or they were told. :hmmm:

Were the Mayans taught astrophysics? Personally, I’m more impressed by the Mayan astronomical achievements than by the development of yet another religious theory of the origin of the universe. Reminds me of a question I’ve often pondered. God spent a great deal of time in the Middle East. Did he ever bother with other peoples?

A good question. I think the answer is found in the “Chosen People”. Now before one cries foul, it is important to remember this is OT before Christ came to open the gates of heaven. I do not know how this all works out as to the plight of their soul.

Well if the world ends in 2012. ill give mayans a big pat on the back. until then i see nothing great about what they have done.

Thats great. So long as they give real arguments which at least prevail in expressing the fact that they are real thinkers, whom do not delight in taking life for granted, and are not just givers of assertion and ridicule.
When you have spent the time to construct a lengthy proof or reason for why you believe with explicit detail, nothing is more upseting and disheartening when your opponent hits you with a one liner that doesn’t really address or take into account anything you have said, other then to assert ones own belief and dogma.

It also said the stars would fall to the Earth, what’s your point? (Revelation 6:13).
I’m sure you’re just saying that to be funny…

BUT ON A SERIOUS NOTE, If atheists – and other nonbelievers in general – could understand and appreciate that there are GENRES & styles of writing in the Bible, they would come to see a lot less “errors” and alleged “contradictions”

👍

Exactly! They parrot what they were told and don’t check it out and study Scripture. Good post.

Let’s translate this into everyday terms. If atheists would only be willing to indulge in our favorite pastime of cherry-picking, if only they would accept that “A” is sometimes “A” (when it suits our needs), and some other times it is “B” (when it is embarrassing), then they would see a lot less “errors” and “contradictions”. No kidding. 🙂 All you have to do is engage in doublethink, and everything is crystal clear. (Oceania is at war with Eurasia and at peace with Eastasia. Therefore Oceania has always been at war with Eurasia and always been at peace with Eastasia. Piece of cake!)

Happens all the time with atheists, doesn’t it? I think it’s redefined as ‘positivism’

Being unable to conceptualize and being bound by the particular and the concrete is quite a limitation.

Geez, I add one freestanding, two word suggestion to someone’s post and then all of a sudden I get vacuumed up and used as a piece of someone else’s strawman. I hope my day improves…
