Ever since I have really embraced my faith and embraced Jesus and pray everyday, I find atheism to be actually insulting…I feel atheist are insulting Jesus, and I can’t help it but take it personal…It’s like when I watch the crucifixion scene in a movie, I get so angry at the people laughing at my Jesus! does anyone else feel this way?..I wish I didn’t feel this way, I don’t want to hurt their feelings, and I’m friends with some atheists…as long as we don’t talk about religion, we get along…I think at one time in my life, I was possibly agnostic, but at my lowest point, I was never atheist…I just don’t understand it…How could a person not love Jesus…?

Well, I have never heard anyone laugh at his crucifixtion, where were you when that happened? Maybe you shouldn’t go back there…

I guess you don’t read the Bible…Luke 23:36…“the soldiers mocked Him”

I guess when a person doesn’t have Jesus in their heart, they are rude and arrogant…😦

It’s awfully hard to insult or love a fictitious character.

It has been my experience that many of those who claim to be atheists are not atheists at all; for whatever reason (possibly unknown even to themselves) they do not desire God.

I do believe in Atheists; any more that I believe in the flying spaghetti monster. If Allah or Yahweh or Moloch or Buddha is not their God, then Alcohol or Sex or Money or Fame is. Everyone has a “god”. It is the principle, concept, person, ideal that nothing greater than can exist.

Are you certain Jesus was fictitious? What makes you so sure?
A few reasons. There are several other ‘jesus like’ characters in religious history, this leads me to believe that jesus was invented to fulfill the prophecy. And, the city of Nazareth did not exist until 300 years after jesus was said to have been born.

lol yeah, ok…

I hope you do not take offense, but I think you have to have your mind made up despite facts. The overwhelming majority of historians (Christian or not) would disagree with you. By the way, I am not a Catholic or a Christian, but the fact of Jesus’ human existence is pretty hard to reason away.

Correction—

Frank Zindler, has asserted that Nazareth did not exist in the first century. His arguments include the following:
Code:
* No "ancient historians or geographers mention [Nazareth] before the beginning of the fourth century [AD]."
* Nazareth is not mentioned in the Old Testament, the Talmud, nor in the Apocrypha and it does not appear in any early rabbinic literature.
* Nazareth was not included in the list of settlements of the tribes of Zebulun (Joshua 19:10-16) which mentions twelve towns and six villages
* Nazareth is not included among the 45 cities of Galilee that were mentioned by Josephus (37AD-100AD).
* Nazareth is also missing from the 63 towns of Galilee mentioned in the Talmud.
none taken, we are all allowed to argue our point.

There are quite a few more historians who disagree, though. Why be so dogmatic about it?

  1. Buddhists do not regard Buddha as a god. Is that not taught in schools?
  2. The term “greater” lacks a great deal of definition when it comes to ideals. Please describe a method to establish the qualitative greatness of an ideal, idol or god that is needed for such a comparison.

You make it sound as if you view atheists as a seething mass of annoying people who are beyond the pale because their ideas about Jesus don’t align with yours.

Have you considered that you believe what you believe as a result of the presuppositions you have decided to adopt? The fact that atheists can find no reason to endorse your presuppositions is hardly something to feel insulted about, surely? Have you read any books by atheists or commentaries about atheists in order to develop your understanding as to why people embrace the atheistic worldview? Do you perceive any difference between the atheism of, say, Lord Bertrand Russell, whom some might describe as a very cultivated highbrow atheist and Madalyn Murray O’ Hair whom some might suggest was a lowbrow atheist? Do you suppose that if you decided to listen more carefully to the arguments that atheists adduce and consider the reasoning within those arguments you might be better able to understand why atheists do not share your worldview?

Curiously,
Mick

Wow. I thought theism was the dogmatic one. You should think about about working on a Summa of Atheism. The point is that everyone has a god, in the sense that we are have a highest principle. Roughly, the reason we live. Most Americans (by the way, this includes Catholics) are hedonists in practice and, consequently atheists, despite there confession of monotheism. The ideal, from a monotheistic point of view, is that the adherent believe and act in accordance with their faith’s teachings. This philosophical concept of God is akin to saying that He is the highest degree of all that is good. As regards, the Buddhism issue, I was not referring to actual Buddist beliefs. I was suggesting that if one believed Buddha was a god, the case would be same as one who held that Allah was God, for example.

Well, we all share space on this earth and need to overcome the misconceptions we have about each other. I can see it will take time.🙂
