It doesn’t bother us, but I tend to believe that it may have less to do with biological factors than environmental factors.
Nevertheless the science (as its unfolding) seems to disagree with you (but again it’s inconclusive at this point). I’d say if you’re interested in the topic read up on it a little bit (but try and stay away from weird sites; ran by both gay advocates and opponents alike, which offer nothing more than inflammatory hyperbole & not a drop of useful information). I will generally only consider information taken from credible sources (like the NE Journal of Med., university sites, etc.).

Do you think it’s a disorder? God bless.

But don’t you find it strange that being gay would be biological for men but not for women?

p.s. Don’t bother with the link if you don’t have the time (I’ll trying finding it in the Journal as you suggested) Thanks anyways.
Not at all. Men and women are formed by different chromosomes, so this allows us to narrow the biological component to the Y chromosome.

Do you think it’s a disorder? God bless.
That’s a tough question. Certainly it’s a deviation from the norm, which is generally (at least with conditions which are less politically charged) one of the central factors used to delineate a disorder. It only presents in about 2% of the population, and moreover we know the biological factor only presents in males (which means it’s caused by a deviation in the Y chromosome).

Obviously I view this issue apart from religious dogma (since I’m not religious). However, something that only afflicts 2% of the population, causing them to live a lifestyle which is much more prone to depression, suicide, drug use, irresponsible sex, etc. is obviously problematic. Perhaps once we discover the root cause of male homosexuality we can mitigate it somehow (but I’m not a scientist so I won’t pretend to imagine what future research into human sexuality might uncover).

Convert66:
If you are unable, or unwilling to examine your own dogmatism it is not my fault.

Tell me what dogmatic views i hold. Now be careful here, i will want you to back it up with quotes, not just say what YOU think my position is.

**I will assume that you subscribe to the scientific method, given your attitude towards faith of any kind. **

The scientific method is by far the best method for understanding the cosmos.

Tell me what is justice?

Justice can have many meanings? Here… dictionary.reference.com/browse/justice

Can you do so with the scientific method?

Can i do what with the scientific method? If you are trying to imply that because there are certain areas the method can’t be applied to, that we should let faith sneak in then your are incorrect.

Man discovered that numbers corresponded to external reality about 4,000 years ago. It took another 2,000 years or so to formulate a theory about gravity,

You are way off with your dates, but that is irrelevant.

yet, here we are a couple thousand years later and your scientific tradition is still wrestling to actually describe what gravity is and how it actually works,

Err well not really? Mass warps space-time.

let alone exists.

Its pretty safe to say it exists.

Still, you are dogmatic in your assertions that science will eventually answer all these questions. It is reasonable to assume, after so long a time, that science can’t explain the origins of the universe, that a “theory of everything” will always remain out of reach

And here we have it. We don’t know that answer yet, so lets stop looking and say “god did it”. DARK AGES ANYONE??? It is mindsets like yours that have held and continue to hold humanity back. You are subscribing to a philosophy of ignorance. Here do your self a favour and watch this video… video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=-102519600994873365&ei=T4-OSvG2Oc3F-Ab2yNT3CA&q=tyson+degrasse&hl=en

and with certainty science can never decide what justice truly is, because it is not a question of science.

Your right it is not, however the origin of the universe MOST CERTAINLY IS.

**Your faith in science is dogmatic. Deal with it. **

Again
Tell me what dogmatic views i hold. Now be careful here, i will want you to back it up with quotes, not just say what YOU think my position is.

Is this a question? It reads like a declarative statement. The only comparisons were there to demonstrate how absurd it is to reject a moral proscription of homosexual behavior based upon what Jesus didn’t say in the Gospels. As I pointed out, He said nothing about pederasty, but I will assume that you have a moral objection to pederasty. He said nothing about the Roman circus, but I will assume you have a moral objection to death-sport as entertainment.
To be honest i couldn’t care less what the bible says. You have said at the bottom that you don’t think it is immoral, so were both are in agreement.

I haven’t read this whole thread, so my apologies if I’m repeating something discussed above.

As someone who was an atheist for many years, I would suggest that you try to consider that most atheists are people who are honestly trying to find the truth. They are struggling with some of the same difficult issues that most believers also struggle with – Why do bad things happen to good people? Where was God during the Holocaust? How could the Church transfer molesting priests from one parish to another without warning? Etc. Like all of us, atheists apply their reason to these problems to the best of their abilities. It’s just that they come to different conclusions.

Who knows when faith will re-awaken in an atheist or when s/he will suddenly hear God? I like to think that most atheists are just “temporary” atheists.

.
I see what you are saying, but there is one other difference, i see no evidence to suggest there is a god. So if i was a believer i would be asking the above questions, however as there is no evidence to suggest a god exists in the first place those questions are irrelevant for me.

Maybe you always believed but struggled with the about, hence why you were a temporary atheist.

Homosexuality on a rational basis doesn’t make any sense because homosexuals can’t procreate, and therefore it is an anomaly, and that anomaly as I understand it cannot be understood in biological terms alone, that is, there is no proof that homosexuality is solely biological. It’s more like a case of nature vs. nurture. Homosexuality maybe more about nurture than nature and hence it is immoral because it is a choice rather than a biological construct.
Then i guess sleeping with your spouse if your not intending on having a baby is immoral? I guess oral sex and masturbation are also immoral?

The Pope said he is not sure why one person has these feelings and why others do not. But he said he does not deny medical research and welcomes it. But he said while he does not deny that the feelings are true, actually he said he agrees that certain people have these feelings while others do not.

He said that we all have crosses to carry. But while he does not deny the feelings he said he still believes that like any other feelings they can be controlled by the grace of God.

Those were not is exact words but its the same meaning. He said just like one person can drink alcohol every day and quit if they want, or drink one or two drinks and another cannot. So he again understands that alcohol can be anothers cross to carry, while it does not effect another.

I have a aunt that drank every day for many years. The Dr said quit because of health reasons so she has not had a drink for the last tweny years. She could care less. While she drank every day she was never what you would call a drunk. SHe could drink ten drinks or one. She could control it. Others cannot. I don’t know why.

A alcoholic cannot stop after one or two drinks. So the Pope said we all have strengths and weekness in life. And the devil knows them and loves to temp us with them.

So again the Pope never denied that we all have crosses to carry, actually he said we all do, some are hooked on drugs, gambeling, etc. There are many sins, and like sin you always get something you like out of it. And usually are repulsed at yourself afterwards.

That is why the CC has help for gay people. THe CC feels for gay people and loves them. Hate the sin love the sinner like I told you. The Pope said never condemn pray for that person. BUt just because we love someone we do not have to love the sin.

We do not judge anyone God does. He left us a gospel on how to live. It is not for him, it is for us to find true happiness. God loves Gay people. He just hates the sin. And knows their struggle and is there to help them. Just like he loves drunks. but hates to see them drunk, etc. He is the Great Shepherd waiting for his sheep to come home. There is no sin to separate us from God. He is a forgiving God, waiting for all his children to come home. All we have to do is repent and quit the sin.

Then i guess sleeping with your spouse if your not intending on having a baby is immoral? I guess oral sex and masturbation are also immoral?
Charles you are so filled with hate. No sleeping with your spouse is not a sin. God made us for eachother to do his work. Why do you have to make everything God created, something so beautiful and fullfilling to look so ugly.

Sex is the most wonderful gift God gave to a husband and wife. It is not only the wonderful physical effects of it but the wonderful emotional effects. When a husband and wife are married in the eyes of God and have the special grace given to them in marriage Sex is the most wonderful thing in the world. God never said everytime you sleep with your spouse expect a baby. WHen two people love eachother in a marriage and a baby comes out of their love it is welcomed and a miracle that God promised us. And if the couple do not procreate it is still a gift from God. They trust God. Something I pray you can feel and find someday.

When a couple have God in their marriage thats what is the glue that keeps it together. Its his grace that keeps that loves strong and lets it get stronger everyday.

I got married when I was 19. I thought I knew love at 19 and never thought I could love my husband more. Well this Sept it will be 28 years of marriage. Many of our friends never made it. Many of our friends never went to Church. We never missed Church and prayed and had many rough times. BUt God pulled us through and showed us his love would beat all. And it did. Our love for eachother is stronger now then I ever thought possible.

There is a saying the family that prays together stays together. I am living proof. I sometimes cannot believe how much God has given us. Not money, but kids, family and eachother. I don’t think I could love him more than I do at this moment. But I thought that 28 years ago too. I can’t wait to see what God has in store for me next.

And I see no evidence to suggest there is No GOd. Actually I can see no other reason but proof for his existence.

Its when I think life can get no worse and anxiety takes over me. How I can go into my room for 5 minutes and ask for help from GOd and come out and know its okay now. When I hand my fears and troubles over to him, and somehow someway he makes everything better. You explain that to me!

And how you can read scripture and see it happen over and over the way God said it would. You explain that one to me?

**Charles you are so filled with hate. **

LOL i am filled with hate? That’s rich considering you are the one with the bigoted view. Exactly who am i calling immoral? Who am i oppressing? You are the one filled with hate. You hate homosexuals, you hate atheists, you hate anything that doesn’t agree with your bronze age book of myth.

**No sleeping with your spouse is not a sin. God made us for eachother to do his work. Why do you have to make everything God created, something so beautiful and fullfilling to look so ugly. **

“Homosexuality on a rational basis doesn’t make any sense because homosexuals can’t procreate,” - if this holds true than neither does oral sex.

Sex is the most wonderful gift God gave to a husband and wife.

I’m sorry to be the one to break this to you but sex is no confined to married humans. So you think it is gods gift when the next door neighbor’s dogs are at it?
**
lt is not only the wonderful physical effects of it but the wonderful emotional effects. **

Which you would deny a loving homosexual couple.

When a husband and wife are married in the eyes of God and have the special grace given to them in marriage Sex is the most wonderful thing in the world.

Again which you would deny a loving homosexual couple.

Keep your prays, you might as will write it on your Christmas list.

**When a couple have God in their marriage thats what is the glue that keeps it together. **

Really well my parents have been happily married for near 50 years, no god involved with that one.

Any you don’t think to men of women could feel this way about each other.?

There is a saying the family that prays together stays together. I am living proof. I sometimes cannot believe how much God has given us. Not money, but kids, family and eachother. I don’t think I could love him more than I do at this moment. But I thought that 28 years ago too. I can’t wait to see what God has in store for me next.

Praying is proven not to work.

**And I see no evidence to suggest there is No GOd. **

Logical reasoning right there.

**Actually I can see no other reason but proof for his existence. **

Like?

Its when I think life can get no worse and anxiety takes over me. How I can go into my room for 5 minutes and ask for help from GOd and come out and know its okay now. When I hand my fears and troubles over to him, and somehow someway he makes everything better. You explain that to me!

Its called the placebo effect.

And how you can read scripture and see it happen over and over the way God said it would. You explain that one to me?#

You mean like genesis, noah’s ark, etc… Oh wait there all nonsense.

Then i guess sleeping with your spouse if your not intending on having a baby is immoral? I guess oral sex and masturbation are also immoral?
If you’re using artificial means and disrupting the natural funtions of the body - yes, if one is abstaining, no. Artificial contraceptives deliberately puts a barrier between yourself and your wife/husband during something which should be an act of total self-giving. I surely don’t want any barriers between my (future) husband and myself (perish the thought 😉 ). As for oral sex, well, I guess the reason the church would consider it wrong is because the man would be wasting his seed correct? I wonder if it would still be wrong if he doesn’t though? :hmmm: Same goes for masturbation, suffice it to say, I do really sympathize I’m sure it can’t be easy for you guys, but God bless those who can.

So then you do consider these things to be immoral? I think one of the greatest mistakes of the catholic church was to openly say that they consider contraception immoral. A comment like that really does show a removal from reality.

To be honest i couldn’t care less what the bible says. You have said at the bottom that you don’t think it is immoral, so were both are in agreement.
I think you misunderstood what Convert 66 was trying to say but I’ll leave it to him to explain it. Charlie I’m assuming you’re gay (am I wrong), what makes you think we hate homosexuals even if we think the act of homosexual sex is wrong?

Hello Charlie,

I seem to have hit a nerve, eh?:ehh:
Tell me what dogmatic views i hold. Now be careful here, i will want you to back it up with quotes, not just say what YOU think my position is.
That’s easy. You are dogmatic about your lack of dogmatism. You are dogmatic about the capabilities of science. It’s not a dirty word, Chuck.
The scientific method is by far the best method for understanding the cosmos.
I would agree. However, we weren’t discussing the cosmos. We were discussing societal morality, which is a little more “liberal arts” than hard science.
Tell me what is justice?

Justice can have many meanings? Here… [dictionary.reference.com/browse/justice](http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/justice)
That was my point. There are some things that science does better than any other method, and there are some questions that science is not equipped to address with any expertise. It’s anti-climactic to know that philosophers have wrestled with the question “what is justice” for millenia, and all they had to do was google a dictionary.:doh2:
Can i do what with the scientific method? If you are trying to imply that because there are certain areas the method can’t be applied to, that we should let faith sneak in then your are incorrect.
It was in the context of “what is justice.” Even you would admit that there are areas where science does not have an answer. I may be mistaken, but I think that’s why those philosophers bypassed Websters dictionary and tried to think about the question “what is justice” deeply.
You are way off with your dates, but that is irrelevant.
Fair enough.
let alone exists.

Its pretty safe to say it exists.
Instead of snipping the sentence to twist what I said, read it in context (an ability you’ve shown little grasp of so far). Can Science explain why or how gravity exists? (See, in context that is what I was asking you). Science can’t, doesn’t care and it is out of its realm. That is the point (kept in context this is glaringly obvious). This should make it glaringly obvious to any middle-schooler that there are relevant areas of life that science can not address, which necessarily limits science’s ability to accurately describe all of reality.

Get off your dogmatism, Chuckie. When and where did I suggest the “god of the gaps” by insisting that there are just some things that are outside of the possibilities of scientific inquiry? You WANT this to be true, you DOGMATICALLY INSIST this must be true, but that is because you are either a fundamentalist or simply lacking the ability to comprehend what you are reading. You have admitted yourself that there are things that lie outside of science’s ability to address. Does this mean you are suggesting a “god of the gaps?”

Oh, and you might want to consider looking into the so-called “dark ages.” Turns out they weren’t so dark after all, and the Catholic Church is the ONLY reason that Islam didn’t extinguish ALL classical literature and learning.
It is mindsets like yours that have held and continue to hold humanity back. You are subscribing to a philosophy of ignorance.
You haven’t gotten anything about my “mindset” right so far, so how are you able to intuit my mindset from your pathetic attempts at reading into what I have actually said? Psychic? Tarot cards? Ouija boards?:newidea:
Your faith in science is dogmatic. Deal with it.
Tell me what dogmatic views i hold. Now be careful here, i will want you to back it up with quotes, not just say what YOU think my position is.
It’s plain for anyone who would take the time to read our exchanges here, Charles. Shall we take a poll? Again, “dogmatic” is not an epithet. In just this post you have asserted the superiority of science while sumultaneously admitting there are things that science can’t even address. You have done injustice (check your google link for a definition) to what I have actually written by insisting what I must really mean when I have suggested no such thing.

Sheesh, for being so “open-minded” you’ve shown nothing but unprovoked and judgmental hostility to what I have actually written here. That’s the pop view of dogmatism, right there!:hypno:

You’ve still missed the point. You’ve refused to even look at the point. Your objections to opposition to gay marriage, by insisting that Jesus never said anything about it are absurd. Instead of simply admitting I am right on this (and I am) you brush it aside because you are too dogmatic to actually engage in a discussion, insisting dogmatically that you “don’t have to.”:manvspc:

Sayonara, Chuckles . . .

So then you do consider these things to be immoral? I think one of the greatest mistakes of the catholic church was to openly say that they consider contraception immoral. A comment like that really does show a removal from reality.
Yes Charles, I do. And what is reality Charles, for the better part of human history contraceptives and sleeping around before one was married was considered wrong, sinful, immoral, then along comes the proponents of moral relativism and with a cavalier attitude declares “hey people, there’s no such thing as truth, truth/reality is what you make of it”, well, if reality is built solely on our own understanding of it then this present reality is nothing but a sham because it’s built on falsehoods. Reality should be based on truth, and truth comes from God.

Hello Charlie,

No, you were talking about the origin of the universe. So said since we don’t know it now, it is reasonable to assume we never will. That us utterly absurd.

You then claim because i accept that the scientific method work i am locked up in dogma. 😃 dear me. Exactly what is dogmatic about that?

There are many things science can answer, the origins of the universe is not an area that excludes science, in fact at as an area specifically suited to science.

I think you misunderstood what Convert 66 was trying to say but I’ll leave it to him to explain it. Charlie I’m assuming you’re gay (am I wrong), what makes you think we hate homosexuals even if we think the act of homosexual sex is wrong?
Isn’t that amazing josie. How many times have we said we do not hate gays. I know I have stated it many of times. But Charles does not want to hear what we think, he wants to tell us what we think.

IT is sad too, because I know many gays that do believe in God. MANY. Just because a person has sin does not mean that they have to deny God. Just because a homosexual act is a sin does not mean that person is hated

I really do not know why he is here. It is not to hear or learn about our faith, because he does not listen he argues with what we say. We try to tell him the teachings and he argues with every little thing we say.

Wonder why is he really here. We know we are here to explain our faith. I would think that he could spend his time in other places. We understand he does not believe in God. He has made his point. SO what is his reason? I do not understand. As I have stated it is not to learn our faith.
