When did I say that the Catholics in question were in the right? I was merely pointing out that the entire point of Jesus Christ was to provide a sacrifice that could redeem fallen man, because good works, compassion, and charity, in and of themselves, were not enough. There is nothing we to do to earn our salvation by doing enough good deeds. No Catholic or Atheist can do that, as I clearly demonstrated and as the Bible and your
own Church teaches. You have completely misunderstood the fundamental doctrine of Christianity. Your statement is quite literally just as wrong as that of certain protestants who proclaim that “Faith means you don’t have to do any good deeds.” It is completely ignorant of the entire foundation of theology proclaimed by Jesus (not to mention Paul, Augustine, Aquinas, and basically any other trained theologian who was not a heretic). So your statement about Faith is just wrong.
To quote your church’s catechism (clipped from another thread)
Possible salvation of non-Christians: #s 846-848.
I think we have to be a little careful to not over simplify the CCC. It says “Hence they could not be saved who,
knowing that the Catholic Church was founded as necessary by God through Christ, would refuse either to enter it or to remain in it.”
Clearly someone who is non Catholic knows that Catholics believe the Church was founded by God through Christ, but they may not believe it actually was.
Ignorance doesn’t just mean a person is completely unfamiliar with the beliefs. It can also mean that they know OF the beliefs, but genuinely don’t think they are true.
I think the main point here is the deliberate and full rejection of God/Jesus. A person cannot necessarily deliberately and fully reject something that they simply do not believe exist in the first place.
