A self-confessed atheist has become a believer after mocking God by sarcastically praying for his mother to win the lottery. However, his joke prayer was amazingly answered as the next day his mother won $1 million on the New York Lottery Sweet Million game…

While I see it as a good thing… it’s going to send other Atheists absolutely bananas. Why? The usual “Oh so God answers prayers for money but not starving kids in Africa!” etc etc.

Im not an atheist and I feel the same way. Im deeply offended by this coincidence/prayer being answered.

The relation to charities is that atheists often love to exclaim about the problem of evil (as seen by the commentators in the article), but they rarely do anything to solve it. When a miracle occurs, they are the first to point at X amount of incidences that God has supposedly overlooked. I thought atheists were the ones to preach the washed-up adage of “Two working hands accomplishes much more than a 1000 clasped in prayer”; now all of a sudden they want to sit around and let God do everything? Talk about a rapid change in ideology.

Secular doesn’t necessarily mean atheist. Secular just means that it is institutionally “without religion”. The United States is considered to be a secular country, but that does not in and of itself remove the majority who follow some kind of religion. So we call the United States a “de facto Christian nation”, that is, it is implicitly a Christian country.

With the world’s largest religion being Christianity, I wouldn’t be too surprised if most people working for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation were actually Christians. I once read that the Catholic Church was the largest charity in the world. But even if we assume that to be incorrect, let us ask ourselves from what paradigm and foundation did charity even first come about? Surely it couldn’t have been from Ayn Rand, or Richard Dawkins, now, could it?
