Atheist Ireland objects to revamped Angelus on RTÉ

The Irish are lucky, I wish we had such a thing in England. The Angelus is the most beautiful prayer, IMO.

In Italy where we live part-time, the village church bell chimes the quarters and peals the hours. That is 24/7, by the way, all through the night. No-one complains.
 
Much ado over nothing.
Joe has fond memories of the Angelus on tv at home.
And here in the US, many church have steeples and bells, even digital bells like at our parish.
Let them fuss and fume.
It’s a charming practice for some, and a prayerful practice for others.
It generally bothers no one.
 
What a bunch of whiny, salty losers. It’s clearly not enough that they got their “marriage equality” in Ireland. Now they’re looking to forcibly stomp out all religion from the public sphere. They can spare me their false courtesies; I know they relish the thought of sending Catholics to the chopping block.

That’s always been the endgame.
 
I should explain that currently the Angelus prayers are not broadcast, just the bell then a short silence. My point was how do you make the Angleus INCLUSIVE, it being what it is, a purely Christian Prayer
 
trouble is most have no idea what the Angelus is… we still hear it rung in many places here. That atheist ireland spokesman is odd. When the Cross atop our highest mountain, Carrantouhill, was cut down, he said it should not have been done BUT that it must not be re-erected… bland homogenised world…
 
👍 Exactly right. Only in “the West” are nations / societies expected to forget or renounce their heritage…
