April 2011: In a broadcasting interview by ELA radio, in Madrid, a group of people who identified themselves as “representatives of different atheist groups”, expressed openly that their goals are to “punish” the Catholic belief, and to “damage” the views of Catholics. They praised the burning of churches in 1936, and they expressed their intention to “welcome” the Pope “as he deserves”, during the announced visit to Madrid in the summer of 2011.

Intellectually the atheists have no rationality. Now they will resort to one liners on billboards to make people doubt. Sleepy Catholics no doubt will be taken in.

What can we do? Address these issues in Church and church bulletins. We should be proactive rather than reactive.

The very brief article is from a non-governmental organization called “Observatory on intolerance and discrimination against Christians” or "“Dokumentationsarchiv der Intoleranz gegen Christen.” It is one of approximately 300 non-governmental organizations which comprise the Fundamental Rights Platform. The FRP advises the Fundamental Rights Agency of the EU.

As for the statement by these atheist spokesmen, does anyone know how large of a following they represent? Certainly here at CAF we have already seen news that student groups in Spain have been harassing Catholic chapels on campus, with an eye towards the Pope’s visit for World Youth Day in Madrid this summer.
 
Tell them to get a life, surely they have something better to do. I for one barely even care if they are protesting. It doesn’t affect my daily life. Perhaps too many Catholics sit on the top of a hill waiting to be offended? (My respect and prayers to those effected by these protests in Europe and America of course)
 
One has to wonder where they are getting the funding. Is it a hidden provision in Obamacare? 😦

I personally would say to these misguided folks------BRING IT ON. (Also-----“Ohhhhhhh, we’re so terrified!!!”)
Holy Mother Church has weathered worse things than these for millenia. We’ve survived it all. Like somebody else said here----nothing new here.
Ultimately, the best thing to do is pray for these people to receive the truth of Christ.

I’m not sure.

There will always be people that disagree and/or hate. Simply ignore. I think always trying to act like a victim just boosts their morale.

Even in Britain, after all the protests about the Pope’s visit… There was what? 40,000 people greeting him in scotland? 😃
 
Hate groups are dangerous and should never be underestimated, expecially when they organized. Don’t forget the Nazis.

Yes it would be interesting to know where their funding is coming from.
George Soros, Planned Parenthood, and others of their ilk consider the Catholic Church as their enemy and have publically stated so.

Atheists are resorting to fundamentalism and blatant anti-Christian militancy? Nothing new.

It may sting us for awhile but at least the Church can rest soundly knowing her enemies are getting desperate. To make up for the intellectual deficiencies of their arguments and beliefs and faced with an academic community growing increasingly hostile to the childish tantrums of Dawkins and Co, they resort to SHOUTING REALLY LOUD in the hope that IF THEY TALK LIKE THIS ALL THE TIME!!!, someone might give a fudge and pay attention to their cries.

Have faith brothers. History will judge the so called philosophers and thinkers, Hitchens, Dawkins, Harris et al…

Please don’t resort to comparing the New Atheists to Nazis. Firstly, it’s just bad taste and we must not sink to their levels. Secondly, you’ll be giving them too much credit.

Perhaps in the future more civility in tone should be observed when broadly insulting a group based off of a few people. With the recent pedophile scandals I would think Catholics would be more charitable 😉

I thought the Spanish atheists learnt their lesson in the Spanish Civil War? Maybe they should also look at the Cristero war. Historically, Hispanics and the Spanish Catholics won’t be pushed around easily.

If they go through with it, I don’t think it’ll look good for them, after all it will tarnish whatever reputation (if any) atheism has left.

Only God’s Church will come out as glorious in the long run, God’s Church is always triumphant, no need to worry about them.

A minuscule percentage of the population are atheists, yet atheism is responsible for the greatest mass murders in history.

~15% in North America en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_atheism#North_America and probably closer to 14% world wide. For a little perspective, there are more atheists in the USA than any individual racial minority group en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_the_United_States#Race_and_ethnicity . A minuscule percentage indeed :rolleyes:

No one kills for atheism, people still kill in the name of God. Atheism is unjustly associated with things like communism, and is then associated with any wrongdoings of that ideology. That is about as well reasoned as saying Hitler was a Christian, therefore Nazism is born from Christianity right? He did use it as a tool to promote early Nazism. However, this is still an unfair assessment. Atheism and the, major, lessons from the Bible don’t tell you to murder people. It is the destructive ideology wrapped around those beliefs that kill people.

Atheists are wont to claim anyone who doesn’t fit typical religious categories as atheist. Exempli gratia: “Spiritual, but not religious” doesn’t mean atheist, it means intellectually lazy believer.

Atheist states systematically targeted religious believers for extermination, especially clerics, because they are a threat to state atheism.

Hitler is Christian ad aternum because he was validly baptized. That doesn’t mean he didn’t reject Christianity or exploit it for political gains, the historical evidence is clear that he did.

he was baptized a catholic, which would make him christian, and never said anything to the contrary

it had little influence on what he did, but he never outright reject the fact he was a roman catholic
 
These people are not just atheists, they are anarchists. They are essentially against any form of order at all.

This is nothing new, it was done with Pope John Paul II also.
