Interesting. And, since there is no organization, just how does US law define it as a religion? More importantly, what specific US law defines “atheism” as a religion?

ETA - I know you’re not the one who originally made that claim, but, since you jumped on the bandwagon with that notion, you’re just as responsible to answer.

My “responsibility,” huh? You can google it yourself. I’m not a lawyer, and I don’t necessarily advocate the 7th Court of Appeals decision. But I found this so far:

…or perhaps the court thinks the word “religion” also extends not so much to just any ordinary class of people that are nonreligious as perhaps to the class of people that are explicitly “anti-theistic-religion.”

There are various 501(c) organizations which exist to “preach” atheism. One in Alaska got YY____ plates for their vehicle… same as any church.

and, by definition, the word atheism is literally greek for “no gods”…
 
So the Westboro Baptists are tolerated in saying ‘thank God for 9/11’ and atheists are not allowed to put up a perfectly reasonable sign? Terrible.

I have the greatest respect for religion, but I really dislike the way the law is swayed to protect only organised religions, and not to also protect non-religious beliefs, or beliefs that are not part of a large, well-known religion.
 
Lethe, it’s simple: Freedom OF religion is logically incompatible with freedom FROM religion.
