Honesty is the best policy. 🙂 Remember, not all Atheists are the same; there are many out there who approve of religion even though they don’t agree with their views… actually, those people are quite rare. 😛
Well, if I was an intellectually honest atheist, I would say that I don’t see the reason to have a religion when the evidence suggests otherwise, but as I do not know everything I cannot condemn it completely.

If this isn’t sufficient, I’m sorry. Acting as an atheist isn’t particularly easy.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! What is this evidence?

Evolution, the natural explanations of nearly everything, the lack of empirical data on the supernatural…stuff like that.

Look, I haven’t seen too many honest atheists. On the contrary, all of the ones I know of are condescending and rude.

Hmm… :hmmm: You probably tried to convert these rude Atheists.

Well, we would put you in the category of a weak Agnostic. That’s okay, though, because clearly it isn’t your nature (at least, not right now) to swallow pride and act something you’re not. Even though, me as a Catholic was a mere four months ago, I couldn’t act Catholic. I could try in my own way, but I couldn’t do so without feeling out of place like you probably felt when you tried Atheism in one sentence.

Nope. They made the first move. Saying things like,“Why do you believe in God? You must be stupid or something.” Trust me, the impression that atheists have given me isn’t that good.

I don’t take risks. I try to stay completely aware of as much as I can and do not make rash decisions. If I was to do something foolish due to a small misunderstanding, I would not be happy. It isn’t pride that drives me. I’m humble enough to admit that I don’t know everything, but proud(or should I say smart) enough to know that the evidence and knowledge I do have couldn’t be all wrong. You see, I’ve experienced the supernatural. I’ve been slain in the spirit, so conceiving of existence without a God is nearly impossible with my experience.

Ha! It’s cool. I’ve had some pretty bad run-ins with Christians myself. I remember mentioning my class is Christian majority. I get more criticisms and insults than the gay dude in front. :o

Ah, experience. My mom has the same argument. :yup: Not that it’s bad, of course. What is this experience, if you don’t mind me asking? You could PM it to me, if you’d like. 🙂

Well, they must not have been obeying the teachings of the faith. Sad indeed.

Nah, I’ll mention it here.

I was about 12, maybe 13, and my grandmother took me to a charismatic mass. We were asked to go up to the altar and be touched by the priest. When he touched my head, I blacked out, losing control of my body. I was conscious, but unable to do anything. I couldn’t even see. It was a remarkable experience, and its all the proof of God I need.

“While modern science, history, geology, biology, and physics have failed to convince you otherwise, some idiot rolling around on the floor speaking in “tongues” may be all the evidence you need to prove Christianity.”
Not saying you’re an idiot because you’re not and you know it… You just reminded me of that quote down the humor section. :o

But, if that helps you get through the day and night, then, believe all you want. :yup:

Funny. The only problem is that I do see evidence of God in all the things that quote mentioned. I have first hand proof, though, and I haven’t found a sufficient alternate explanation for this experience.

Of course, not experiencing it yourself, you wouldn’t understand.

Dear Veritas:

We as a culture have no proof that evolutipn is a fact; it is a hypothesis, scientifically ,and a bad one at that. Creation is more obvious, with The All that Is-God, Behind it.

Evolution, is rubbish, and it makes no sense. Nothing evolves, it grows, matures and then–it dies, all in nature. We live to die, do we not? But what, praytell ,do we evolve into?

Why are you forcing your whole athesistic idea through a hole callled evolution? That makes no sense, does it?

We have real supernatural proof of miracles-Lourdes and the 66 Miraculous cures for example. And real doctors who declaired them as such–or are they wrong too?

We have no real proof, expect some weird “theories” that evolution is real and it is the way the world functions.

The word is simply a delusional function of agnostics who can only see things as they terrn as"rational."

I have nor great love for pure rationalists–why do you, they are unstable intellectualists–believe me.

I have worked, medically, with many of them. The idea of natural selection and evolution is boring, as they are stupid concepts…

There are many proofs for God’s existence–Read Aquinas…

And, personally, I wouldn’t want an experience like that. :ehh: (Granted that God exists for the next fve seconds) If God were to give me the “gift of speaking in tongues,” I would never speak to him intentionally again.

But, I really think things like speaking in tongues, exorcisms, and maybe even prayer is similar to hypnotism, in which the one experiencing it experiences it because they already believe and wish to cooperate with the one performing. But, again, that’s just me. 🙂

Were you expected to have such a reaction?

Honest answer now…

Hey, I was just putting myself in the shoes of an atheist. I do not think that evolution is enough to disprove God, and I do believe in the authenticity of miracles. I was trying to see things from their point of view. Do not mistake me for one of them.

At the time, I wasn’t sure what the purpose of the mass was. I kept asking my grandmother and she told me just to wait and experience it. So, no, I wasn’t expecting it. I didn’t even find out it was called being slain in the spirit until later.

And, personally, I wouldn’t want an experience like that. :ehh: (Granted that God exists for the next fve seconds) If God were to give me the “gift of speaking in tongues,” I would never speak to him intentionally again.

Why? What is wrong with tongues?

Hypnotism only works on those who believe that it works. It really isn’t effective against skeptics. Seeing as I had no idea about the purpose of the mass, that explanation doesn’t work.

You’ve got to be kidding me?

You actually sound like an evangelical fundamentalist Christian.

Are you aware that the Catholic Church accepts evolution. Do you know why? To deny evolution as a fact, would make the Roman Catholic Church a laughing stock throughout the enlightened world.

Since when does a theory have to appear as not being weird to your personal and subjective opinions?

You suggest that the theory of evolution is a stupid concept, yet this theory has an absolute mountain of observable, testable and falsifiable evidence behind it.

Yet you believe, without any evidence, that a piece of bread is turned into the flesh of the son of the creator of the universe, at every single Mass, presided over by a Catholic priest!

You also believe, again, without any evidence, that the creator of the universe knows the thoughts of all 6.5 billion people on earth and personally intervenes to assist you in your daily life!

Then, you sit there, and call one of the most studied and researched theories in all of human history…stupid!

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
🤷

Come on man, you’ve got to be kidding me with this post?

It’s ridiculous. :nope: It’s just my two cents, but I just really don’t like the idea of having convulsions on the floor. That Jesus Camp documentary was annoying and definitely contributed to my discomfort in this supernatural stuff.

Why? What is wrong with tongues?

.
It is dishonest. People only act out, the way they believe they are supposed to act out. If it were all true, and it’s not, people would be speaking in tougnes constantly, all day, at any particular time.

Hmmm… yet it only happens in Church, and not while your sitting in the middle of a job interview or while your writing an exam.

The Holy Spirit seems to only fill the believes when they are around like minded individuals.

Sounds like a touch of insecurity to me, but then again, I’m no psychologist.🙂
