I have heard some humble people say that maybe those who attend the EF are actually weaker spiritually and need a little more to connect to God.
Maybe. In a way. I think, for some traditionalists, anything that is traditional (liturgy, architecture, etc…) has become their life raft a midst a world that is quickly become depraved of life and spirituality. Their spirits are nourished by these traditional practices. They quickly become disconcerted and angry when these traditional practices are taken away from them. I’ve read stories of people leaving Catholicism because the TLM was replaced by the Pauline Mass, and it’s deflating.

I’m not saying all are. I admire people who are traditional, yet anchors his/her spirituality beyond the traditional practices. I’ve seen them here in CAF.

I think that’s point of the “humble people” you talked about. There’s more to Catholic spirituality and faith than traditional practices. The traditional practices come and go. One’s spirituality and faith must not.

🙂

If I suddenly had no access to the EF, I don’t know what I would do. It would be tough. I suppose I would adapt but my first mass experience was a TLM. I would be lost. I don’t know if I would be strong enough to deal with that. I’m being honest.

However, lex orandi, lex credendi.
I agree. The Liturgy is a constituitive element of holy and living Tradition. However the form of liturgy changes. 😛

Now you’re illustrating what I said. I’ll pray you won’t have anxiety attacks. 😃

Yes, I know. That’s why I said I’m being honest. 😊

I don’t think I would have anxiety attacks. My greatest fear would be indifference.

That is really something to fear. May I ask just to clarify… indifference in what way?

Since I moved to FL, I haven’t had access to the TLM. Back in NJ I was able to go every week and I LOVED it. I can still go to Mass, but I have to admit that I have just not had the same experience of transcendence that I got at the TLM. I miss weekly confession right before Mass, I miss my confessor-the good priest who convinced me that God loved me and wanted me to live a chaste and holy life. He convinced me that God would be by my side and knew my struggles and would hold my hand through it all. That confession experience changed my ENTIRE life and the Mass afterwards is something I will never forget.

I am continuing to pray that more parishes closer to my home will offer the TLM.

Isn’t Jesus enough?

I’m sorry you got bored at Mass. I didn’t realize it was a form of entertainment.

Bored doesn’t always mean with entrainment where I come from… We use it as a term that say makes us uncomfortable or not to like it any more… Thanks for your sarcasm 😉

I love it when I can go to the EF Mass for so many reasons but I love that I am connecting to what previous generations had for a Mass prior to Vatican II as I was born a few years after the council changes to the OF Mass. I love both forms of the Mass, but I think I find solace in the EF Mass with the prayers, the Latin, Communion at the rail & on the tongue, the reverence and respect shown by Mass go-ers, etc.

I think that Jesus spoke the vernacular of those he ministered to not another language. When Paul went to evangelize he was more learned but still used the tongue of those whom he ministered to!
When Christ prayed in the temple, he prayed in the liturgical language of the church, not the vernacular.

Hopefully, no priests, traditional or otherwise, evangelizes or ministers to people in Latin. I would bet that most do not speak it well enough to do so even if they could be understood.

Isn’t Jesus enough?
It depends on what you mean by the statement. For example, the born-again Christians would use that exact question to dismiss the necessity of the Church and Her Sacraments.

Everything flows from Christ and in that sense, yes, Jesus is enough (infinitely more). But that doesn’t mean we simply discount the Sacraments, the Saints, devotions, prayer, retreats, etc, etc. All of these things help bring us closer to Jesus and without them we would be lost.

there is a reverence of the TLM that was special. Now that I have been to two TLM, I can see the the OF is more participatory in terms of responses. However, the way it is celebrated at my Church is not nearly as reverential as the TLM or other OF for that matter.

He is everything. And the TLM helps some to be closer to Him in greater reverence and awe.
Exactly right, in my opinion! Thank you.

Sorry about the sarcasm. I just took your comment at face value.
