Attending sspx a sin?

I agree. I’m neither a canon lawyer or a theologian, but it seems to me that if the SSPX were truly schismatic then they would not need faculties to have valid sacraments, just like the Orthodox. The fact that some of their sacraments are invalid without permission from a bishop testifies tot he fact that they are still inside the Church. I will not, however, opine as to whether attendance at their masses is sinful. That will probably vary from person to person depending on their reasoning, and hopefully their guidance from a priest or bishop in good standing.

This is why it is just best to say that their status is “canonically irregular” and leave it at that.

err, yes.

The SSPV broke off the SSPX, finding them too liberal . . . .

And Pope Francis extended the faculties for Confession past the “Year of Mercy”.

I think some SSPV guys broke off from SSPV because the SSPV was too liberal.

from wikipedia:

Within a few years, about half of the original nine SSPV priests separated from Fr. Kelly. Most of them formed an openly sedevacantist group, “Catholic Restoration”, under the leadership of Frs. Dolan and Sanborn

Ah, I haven’t heard of them!

This just goes to show that Sedevacantistism is nothing more than Protestantism with a Catholic veneer.

Yeah, it is hard to see how they get to their positions that say these Catholic teachings are binding, but yet they aren’t bound by them and can decide for themselves which apply. So the Church is infallible but yet has become fallible somehow…and blatant disobedience is bad except for their blatant disobedience.

Sedevacantism just doesn’t logically make sense. It is Protestantism that says Protestantism is wrong because it says the Catholic Church fell into error (which they say) and it is wrong to disobey the Church (which they do).

Exactly. God would apparently allow His bride to run around like a headless chicken.
And not the MHFM (the Dimond Bros). yet another group.
Who should also be avoided!

The problem is that so many “Catholic” sites on the web are run by and for the more extreme elements, whether in Communion with the Church or not. Of course, there are the legit sites that are reliable, and the Official Church pages, but there are a lot of questionable sites that can misinform or even scare away potential converts or reverts.

I had to do a bit of research just to find out what an sspx mass even was. I now feel somewhat more enlightened than I was when I awoke this morning. My grateful thanks. 😁

It’s great being “woke” to the fact that assisting at an SSPX Mass does not ipso facto make one a schismatic or put one in a state of mortal sin.

Yikes. I missed that.

How far past SSPV can you go?

what to they call themselves, the Crucifiers of Pontius Pilate? 😱

Please. A true traditionalist group would never call themselves such a thing.

Pilate is of such a low level of scum, he doesn’t deserve to die the same death as Our Lord. 😜

Look at the website for The Most Holy Family Monastery. The SSPV are horrible modernist heretics!

Here is this statement: AT THIS TIME, IN THE YEAR 2014, AT LEAST IN THIS COUNTRY, WE ARE NOT AWARE OF ANY CHURCH A CATHOLIC SHOULD ATTEND ON SATURDAY OR SUNDAY IN ORDER TO RECEIVE COMMUNION. PEOPLE SHOULD STAY HOME ON SUNDAY AND PRAY 15 DECADES OF THE ROSARY. THAT’S BECAUSE ESSENTIALLY ALL THE PRIESTS ARE CLEAR HERETICS AND THEY GIVE SERMONS OR TALKS ON THOSE DAYS. WE DON’T BELIEVE PEOPLE SHOULD RECEIVE THE SACRAMENT FROM THEM DURING A MASS AT WHICH THEY GIVE A SERMON. HOWEVER, THERE ARE STILL SOME OPTIONS FOR RECEIVING CERTAIN SACRAMENTS (ESPECIALLY CONFESSION), AS EXPLAINED BELOW.
