Attending sspx a sin?

Years ago, when I went to the local RC church for daily mass, a fellow tried giving me a magazine from “Most Holy Family Monastery”. I read a little bit and was horrified. We ended up arguing outside of church. Eventually he left.

Their favorite saint is St. Robert Bellarmine. If St. Robert was alive today, he’d probably sue them for misrepresenting his words.

I highly recommend True or False Pope? A Refutation of Sedevacantism and Other Errors by John Salza and Robert Siscoe. This book really helped me and hope it does the same for others too. They have their own website too - it’s the first four words of the title dot com.

St. Robert Cardinal Bellarmine, second among the Jesuit saints, who taught that external obedience to the church and asserting belief on one’s lips was sufficient for salvation, being used to advance sedevacantism???

Sure, and mice that support cats, and . . .

I’m assuming that you’ve never seen sedevacantist magazines or other media. If so, you are blessed b/c they twist the words of the saints and take them out of context.

If it’s a choice between the SSPX and a Protestant service, imho definitely go with the SSPX. The priests I’ve known are very good confessors.

It’s been a few years, but I have.

But Bellarmine in support of disobedience is like . . . gosh, I can’t even come up with a good example. Carrie Nations to support binge drinking? JFK on chastity? Brittney Spears on modesty?

edit: just got it: Luther in support of obedience!

We can put that silly “choice” to rest, now…

The sspx wax hot and cold.
They have been entirely subverted and mesmerized by snakes.

Are you talking to me.?
It is not clear and I don’t understand either,

I attended SSPX masses on various occasions and in different places (sometimes without realizing it at the time) and I never once heard anyone speak ill of the pope or encourage disobedience.

What I mean is, it’s a false comparison (which I know you didn’t draw–it was another poster).
SSPX is Roman Catholic, and their status is irregular, not schismatic. Protestant churches not only are schismatic, they teach heresy (denial of Sacraments, etc.).
Hope this helps–wasn’t an attack on you at all. 😎

I’ve muted all response notifications. Still see likes, though. Nice PMs always welcome. Have a blessed day!

Sedevacantism isn’t an all or nothing thing. There are those who accept that a given pontiff may have been validly elected, in some adminstrative sense he serves. But he is a pope, not a Pope, such as Pope Pius 12. For doctrine, they may trust a Pope, rather than a pope. They might use Pius 11 to interpret Francis, they would never use Francis to interpret Pius 12.

Within an organization, there can be varying opinions among individuals, even if the organization has a single official position.

Suppose that in 2018 Fr. John leaves SSPX to join Rome, and Fr. Bill leaves SSPX to join the Resistance. I would surmise that during 2016 and 2017 the sede feeling was dropping for one, and rising for the other. While both were still serving in SSPX.
