I am somewhat disheartened as I approach yet another group of marriage prep couples… They wouldn’t be there except that Father says they have to, in order to get married in the Church. And yes, the seeds of something might be planted, but heck! how does one make the Church’s teaching on sexuality matter NOW, even a little bit, for these couples? Ten years ago they used to ask questions, sorting through the conflicted messages and grappling with the issues of abstinence, theology of the body, homosexuality, pornography, etc. Now they don’t seem to ask anymore, and are very defensive. Anyone out there with some ideas? (It’s a different story working with those who are seeking out a teacher and attracted to the moral life that the Church proposes.)

I always pray for marriage prep couples, lots.

Maybe its time for Father to tell them they can’t marry in the Church and have the wedding of their dreams. Wake up call?

As a priest I would definitely need to know they were not going to contracept and abort babies which God gives them as gifts in their marriage, before I wed them!

Our deanery’s marriage prep makes no mention of NFP, contraception, fertility treatments, sex or chastity within marriage - so consider yourself lucky that the tooic is even broached.

Honestly I’m not sure Priests get how important NFP is to the marriage. Have they been educated? How many years ago???

Form a panel of NFP users, have them present all the points you teach, and have a question answer time with the Priests, and the couples. Ask the Bishop to be able to present this at their next Priest retreat. He’d probably love it! Record it and you can use it as a teaching tool!

We found we could not conceive. I took my NFP charts to my OBGYN. He poured over the 18 months of charting and exclaimed, "this is amazing! Do you know what this means? He ticked off on his fingers a bunch of painful, expensive tests, he would not have to run because of the information on my NFP charts. He says we saved thousands and thousands of dollars, and a year of work ups. He was able to target the problem immediately, and give us the answers we needed! 👍

How AWESOME is that!! 👍
Every female should be taught NFP in her teens, I say. lol Let’s hope it inspires many young Catholics to become OBGYNs too.
