In Volume 8 (2012-2013) of Letter & Spirit entitled Promise and Fulfillment: The Relationship Between the Old and New Testaments, St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology,

there is an article by Leroy Huizenga on “The Tradition of Christian Allegory Yesterday and Today”

which has some interesting perspectives from St. Augustine, which I shall paraphrase as follows (from page 88 of the paperback volume)

1 The purpose of scripture study is to increase your faith, hope, and love.
  1. If you seem to have understood scripture in any way that has not increased your faith, hope, and love, then you have not understood the scripture.
That’s putting a sharp edge on that subject.

The volume is great, packed with inspirational essays. I have the vague feeling that there’s more, perphaps a lot more, that could be said about the relationship between the Old and New Testaments.

Our bishop in his state of the diocese address has said, that the heart of being Catholic is the exercise of Faith, Hope, and Love.

I pray that you recieve more instuction on this hinge of progress concerning the Sacred Scriptures vis-a-vis the Theological Virtues.

I have to admit, Intellectually, the Fathers of the Church make suprises come about! And Pope Francis said our God is a God of suprises, and open doors

I cannot praise God enough, for what you had written!
