I will be keeping Father Euresti in sincere prayer and ask that all of you do likewise. It is truly sad when a priest of God may be harmed as this indicates. Pray for his safety and recovery.

Blood and a knife? I fear the worst for him. I will have a Mass said for him in my parish. If he is not found safe in this world, I hope he is safe in the next.

this is a sad story. he was in mexico preparing his home for when he retires. from evidence found at the scene, they fear he has been murdered.

we definitely need to keep him in prayer. luckily, his family notified the authorities immediately because they were concerned that he had not returned.

I am from Laredo, Texas, just across the border from Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico. From what the police reports indicate, they were initially treating this case as a missing person’s matter. However, the fact that there was blood all over the place and a missing mattress indicates to me that, unfortunately, there may be homicide involved. The caretaker of the house is missing so the police do suspect this man of having something to do with the priest’s disappearance. The Mexican police is not exactly known for its great forensics. I believe that law enforcement agencies from the United States, particularly from my county, have offered assistance.

During tonight’s newscast, they ran a breaking news story that the body of a man had been found beneath a mattress. It was off to the side of a road. The Mexican authorities believe that it might be that of the missing priest. However, the family needs to identify him.

You have, no doubt, seen and heard the stories about violence along the Mexico border. This particular violence has subsided in Nuevo Laredo for quite some time now. Unfortunately, Fr. Euresti happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. He also placed his trust in the wrong person.

When I have had to go to Nuevo Laredo, I only go to public areas and in daylight. Luckily, our downtown and their downtown are linked by a vehicular/pedestrian bridge and whatever I need is just three blocks into Mexico.

The reason why I say all of this is because the incident happened on the Mexican side of the border, not in Laredo. For our part, our community is fairly safe. Please do not let what happened scare any of you from coming down for a visit.

We are keeping Fr. Euresti and his familiy, and his diocesan family, in our prayers.

His body has just today been found.
Actually, it was found yesterday. It was only today that the Mexican authorities made their confirmation. We, too, are praying for the repose of his soul and for comfort for both his blood family and his parish family.

this is sad news. i have been gone most of the morning and have not heard any news today.

they have positively identified the body as that of the missing priest? what about the caretaker? has he been found? wasn’t the priest’s car also missing?

thanks for the updates.

Nuevo Laredo police have confirmed that the body of a man found on the side of the road is that of an Austin priest.
In a press conference this afternoon Nuevo Laredo police reveal how they were led to the man’s body.
Our Noraida Negron explains in our top story.
The gruesome discovery was yesterday afternoon outside of Nuevo Laredo city limits in the country area.
According to Nuevo Laredo investigators, the body was already decomposing. They also said it looked like Father Jesse Euresti had been dead for four or five days already.
The man believed to be behind the killing is now behind bars. Police say it is the caretaker of the home Manuel Torres Saldana. According to Nuevo Laredo authorities the suspect was caught after he contacted Father Euresti’s family asking for money.
In exchange he said he would give information on where the body was located.
Coming up on Pro 8 News at Six, we talk to Father Euresti’s nephew and he tell us how difficult it has been for the family.
They say they are glad they have some closure.
