“Australia’s Catholic church is threatening to fire teachers, nurses and other employees who marry their same-sex partner if gay marriage is legalised, in a dramatic move led by the country’s most senior Catholic,” Archbishop of Melbourne Denis Hart.

“Our teachers, our parish employees are expected totally to uphold the Catholic faith and what we believe about marriage.”

As Life Site News reports, "Australia is holding a voluntary survey on same-sex ‘marriage’ this autumn, beginning in September. If the postal ballots indicate a ‘Yes’ vote, the government will introduce a private member’s bill making same-sex ‘marriage’ a legal entity. "

Fair warning. It’s important for the Church to avoid scandal.

True!

Also, the Liberal Party is very, very conservative. I doubt it might gain any parliamentary support except from the Green’s.

I hope Pauline Hanson gives her two cents.

Well, if the Catholic Church wants to be even more irrelevant to Australian life, that’s one way to do it

Give them fair warning. You can’t work for the Church while violating one of Her core values.

Hi there.
I came from a situation with an alcoholic parent that had other addictions as well. As an adult now, I love having God as my Father. I love being his daughter. Love. I know what slavery to sin looks like, I lived with it for a few decades. I appreciate the gift of Jesus on the cross and what is available to me as a daughter of God.

I don’t live in Australia. I don’t know, do you have a problem with violence? Gangs, prostitution, stealing, corruption? Addictions? Jesus on the cross is the answer to all human problems. Too bad if folks find him irrelevant to our human existence.

If we could wave a magic wand and have everyone follow the 10 commandments, whether they believed in God or not, how many people would be in the prison system? How many of those criminals would then be contributing to their communities instead of being predators? The world would look very different. When someone says God is irrelevant, the church is irrelevant, they have never experienced the transforming power of God in their life. He is an awesome God! May he be your Father, and soon. No time to waste. We need you to be a force for good in this world.

There is another thread on this already.

My Church is not threatening, it’s going to , if this law comes in.

And at this point the vote is just a statistical representation of the population, if anyone bothers to vote.

The vote is actually being touted as a stalling tactic for bringing in the law

Did gay marriage make your parent an alcoholic? Was gay marriage the root of violence, prostitution, stealing, corruption and addiction? Why the saltiness? At some points in history, religious rules were law and I am very thankful that is not the case today.

Christians must ‘not be conformed to this world’ (Rom 12:2).
How are the Protestant denominations that conform to world doing? They’re not doing well in the Canada, the UK, and the US. How are those denominations that don’t conform to world doing? They’re stable in those countries. Some Protestant denominations have been diluting the Gospel to appeal to the secular to grow their numbers and clearly it has yielded them nothing but more losses. Is Australia going to be different? I doubt it.

The Catholic Church stands up for the LAWS of GOD, not the whims and whistles of mankind. Either we follow the narrow path to Heaven or the wide and easy path to you know where!!! God’s Will, not ours. God Bless, Memaw

I wrote that to illustrate that breaking the commandments is bad for the individual, bad for their families, and bad for the nation, regardless which commandment it is.

It’s like learning to drive. There’s a handbook to learn and memorize. You have a driving instructor as you learn to go into traffic. The reason is because you are sharing the road with a million other drivers, and their families. When someone says that these stop signs are annoying, red lights are a pain in the neck and take up too much time, what the heck with these speed limits, disaster will happen. The same is with the commandments except we don’t see an immediate bang with people hurt and a debris field. It’s a lifetime of hurt and hurting people. We share this planet with a million other people. The commandments are good for men and women, children, seniors. It’s good for society to build on that foundation. Building on rock is a smart idea.

So, it’s essentially a Fifth Column? I think FBI and CIA definitely need to take a closer look at this organization and its members .😃

Except,

Australia doesn’t have the FBI or CIA.

The Australian Catholic Church is standing up for God. Not what man wants.

Considering that your profile reads that you conform to whatever religion is convenient at the time, your view makes sense. However, the Church should not be interested in popular vote or the whims of opinion polls. Rather the Church is supposed to influence the world; not the other way around.

That is one of the more illiterate questions I have seen asked. If that is the best you can do, you really need to find a different blog.

Kind of ironic.
They are not fired for having a relationship with their girlfriend/boyfriend…but once they make it legal and pledge to love the other forever and in many cases, get married in churches and adopt kids and have families…that’s what gets them fired.
Well actually only the get married part of it.

It like when a divorced person remarries: the reason we have a problem with it is not because we are against marriage, but because that particular marriage is not a valid marriage.
