G’day mate,
soon we will vote, it seems so complex, well it did at first.

I could vote for a minor party hut the will jot get to rule.

I could vote for the best economic outcome, but the world is not really about this.

He is about life, that makes it easy for me to see.

Julia Gillard and the labour party have an alliance with the greens, the greens sound good because they sound like a good party for the environment.

But i have been told the greens are pro abortion and other bad thing.

Labor traditional has been for the working man. Today they want people licensed to kill.

Gillard openly says she had a Christian upbringing but has turned away i guess that makes abortion easy ok with her.

Vote against abortion if you believe life has value.
No one knew how yours would have turned out but i am glad it was not taken from you without you having choice.

I value your life above all the other policies, my financial position and so on.

You now have G-ds power to take or save life with your vote.

God bless the people of Australia and help them as they vote.
God bless all who are elected and help them to be guided to the Holy Spirit as they make and enforce laws.

And God bless Steven—

Yes, Steve John, I know.
Praying for the outcome that with be pleasing to God.
Praying that God will guide the choices made.
And asking our (Saint) Mary MacKillop for her prayers.

Thanks, mate, for giving our election a mention here.

Overall, liberals tend to be more pro-life than labour, but it’s not a clear difference, as both tend to preserve the status quo - ie. not introducing new anti-life legistlation, but also not repealing the existing legislation, and not overriding state governments. A little known fact is that Kevin Rudd extended Commonwealth support for abortion-providing overseas aid agencies - and I don’t expect Julia Gillard will reverse that!

I strongly support labour’s internet filter. I just can’t see why there so much opposition to keep internet nasties out of peoples’ homes. I just wish they would extend it to all forms of pornography.

The advocates of gay “marriage”, and euthenasia, are going to keep pushing their agenda. Having libs in power may be more of deterrent than having labour, but, again, it’s not a clear cut difference.

The Greens are, however, a different matter. They are strongly “liberal”, in the modern sense, ie. actively campaigning for almost every anti-life, anti-morals cause: abortion, gay marriage, euthenasia, IVF for gay couples, etc. Labour’s life and morals record is tainted by their alliance with the Greens.

And, thankyou, Trish for reminding us to pray to Mary MacKillop! How did i forget that?? 🙂

She’s a rellie of mine so I’m not likely to forget! And no, it didn’t ‘rub off’ on me!

I didn’t know Rudd took it on himself to do that!

And yes, it’s a worry that the Greens are giving their preferences to Labour.
I have a cousin standing for the Greens and he’s a very active member of atheist associations. I have a personal fondness for him but he wouldn’t get my vote as for instance he supports the association which campaigns for removing tax breaks from any religious organization that speaks out against government policies. They don’t have the clout (yet) and hopefully won’t gain it…but it’s basically an attempt to undermine freedom of conscience.

Watching with interest from the other side a the creek…

Hey, did you guys know that Kiwis can’t be Aussie citizens since 2001??

There’s your deciding voters right there for ‘Godzoners’…gone!

Aww well…

GOD BLESS AND VOTE WELL!

May God guide your conscience in His will. Peace and goodness to you all. Carlan

I feel very blessed that going to the polls so many are trying to be very conscience of G-d in that decision, praise G-d i am not alone.

Wow how blessed are we Aussies people across the world are praying for us already such a blessed country.

My their prayers be answered and Australia as a nation grow a generous heart to share our blessings with our global family, friends and for good to come even our enemies.

Bless you all so much.

Br Edmundus, you are right that it is not so cut and dried as i made it.

This election seems very void of strong policy and is most about character, what character?

Neither seems to have a lot, it is like trying to pick the lesser of two evils, (not to disrespect our candidates just expression).

I guess my prayers between now and the weekend should be “I want to vote you Father” and look for Him and his slaves / servants / children, during the days ahead.

Big thing is who is the ones i vote for accountable to?

Bless ya all, remember your vote is small, but from small things big things grow.

Thanks Steven, for responding.

I’m afraid that’s been my attitude for some time 😦

I have found a very good Christian Values Checklist, at christianvalues.org.au

Many of the items are not clear, as the policy of the party is not certain, and experience also tells us that, when in government, both parties tend towards the status quo and/or middle ground eg. liberal government introducing RU486 (opposed by Tony Abbott as health minister, to his great credit), Labor government rejecting gay marriage (so far).

However, from the list, four clear issues, on which we can be reasonably sure of the parties following through, would be:
  1. Protect children - no overseas adoption by same sex couples…Libs - For, Lab - Against
  2. Life is precious - oppose overseas aid for abortion…Libs - For, Lab - Against
  3. Support mandatory ISP filtering of internet pornography…Libs - Against?, Lab - For?
  4. Preserve free speech - oppose religious and sexuality vilification laws…Libs - For, Lab - against
One issue of my own is: a compassionate attitude to boat people. I don’t have an informed opinion on how actually deal with them, but I would like to see both parties at least expressing compassion. Tony Abbott’s hard-line approach troubles me.

And, as for the Greens - wheeewww , and, as we’ve agreed, that does raise serious questions about Labor’s intentions, particularly as the Greens are being tipped to have the balance of power.

Don’t forget that you can give you first preference to one of the minor parties (eg. Family First), and still use your vote to preference a major party.

G’day Br Edmundus,
you have given me some real blessing in your post,

I have in times voted minor parties. I am not real political so may not understand things as well as others. I see my vote as being cast to bring some of G-ds light to our countries leadership.
Knowing minor parties ie Christian democratic party wont be elected i would not be voting them to become the perceived leader of this country.

I dont vote the parties preferences and always number all the boxes, i dont do real well on this as some parties are unknown to me but i do trust G-d to guide my hand better than a political party man. After all our for fathers in faith are narrated to drawn lots for some important decisions.

I am amazed at how many Catholics are voting labor out of habit, “i have always voted for them” refusing to see them for what they are today and clinging to how their dad taught them to vote.
Given they are devout Catholics it lessens my discernment that Catholics are the religion that is rightly guided. Given Her rich traditions i ponder is that what she is becoming a place where people dont change. Given we sing the same old hyms it would also seem to support this. Any way that is off topic out loud thinking, sorry.

Voting is such a big decision may G-d guide us all that together His will be done.

Bless ya Bro, you have really helped to keep my thinking with open mind to seek closer to His truth outcome.

God bless the Australian voters that they do their best to fulfill the will of God.

I just read the other day that Australia ranks number one in the world…for returning a wallet filled with cash to its rightful owner…the USA came in second…

And thankyou again, Br Steven, for bringing our election to this wonderful place where share information, thoughts and prayers!

I was a Stephen (with a “ph”), before I took Edmund Campion as my internet patron Saint 🙂

And thankyou, so much, Kathy and the other Americans, New Zealanders, and others (?), for taking the trouble to visit this thread, and leave a few words and prayers.

St Mary MacKillop - Ora pro nobis

So let me get this straight, you will vote someone in who will be a horrible leader because they dont support abortion, yet a much better candidate who “supports” abortion is pushed aside?

Anyone who supports the murder of their citizen’s children is not a fit candidate to lead. Regardless of political acumen.

What makes you say that Abbot will be worse? Abortion issues aside. Gillard is nothing. She wasted 8 billion on schools. She stood behind Rudd nodding her head at every thing he said. She was like a dash board doll every time he said something. Then she stabs him in the back, for the things she supported or was in charge of. She even had the hide to go on tv, telling everyone how she is going to drop rudds dud policies. I was thinking what? they were half your ideas…
Anyway, i heard a good joke.
If Gillard, Wayne Swan and Bob Brown were in a plane crash, who will survive?..Australia.

Peace and blessings your question does not really make sense as better is a judgement on what one values. If you held the right of life for an unborn child as the most important issue than to you that would define the better candidate.

As other people have well pointed there are other issues that pertain to the right to life.

I think life is opportunity so life should be the most important issue, i say should be as i have weakness.

But without life there is no other issue.

Of course without your life but having mine i would still have other issues that may define the “better” candidate. Then i open the can of worms who’s life is more important, yours, mine, the people of Pakistan or an unborn child.

For Christians Yeshua (pbwh) shows… well its up to interpretation.

Blessings to you and yours

I will pay that.

G-d bless you. I needed a laugh in all of the serious stuff.

To non Australians please dont take it as insult Aussies are people that make fun of most things.

It seems to me that all of the last minute promises being thrown around can be included in their costings.

Maybe i should vote for the candidate who is not promising much as they maybe telling less lies.

Its such a game

OK I’ll give you that.

On the mention of ‘promises’ one question remains in my mind, “Where is the money gonna come from?”. Its something I talk with my grandfather about, we keep getting ‘we will fix this and that’, but the only way they can afford it is to increases taxes, something all parties are saying they wont.

I can’t understand why we voted Howard out! Yes he did some silly things, but on the whole, he did a very good job at running the country. Rudd was a dud!
