An agency of the Catholic Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn, Australia, has launched a dynamic digital Audio-Visual learning resources available for online purchase and instant download.
The offering is a first for the Australian Catholic Church and has been designed by CatholicLIFE (the Canberra-based Catholic Learning Institute for Faith and Evangelisation) as part of a greater strategy for faith formation.
Director of CatholicLIFE, Shawn van der Linden, said that their strategy to include the use of interactive web and multimedia options to complement their comprehensive services is in direct response to the results from an extensive survey conducted over the past year.
The new multimedia product has been timed to coincide with the Liturgical Feast of St Paul – January 25th – as well as the halfway point in a year dedicated to the Apostle by Pope Benedict XVI.
Featuring the internationally acclaimed speaking skills of Biblical Scholar, Archbishop Mark Coleridge, the 4-part lecture series on St Paul comes to life via packages of video downloads, audio downloads or DVD’s accompanied by an E-Book study guide as well.
“It’s already clear to see that the survey figures which showed a need and desire for greater resource accessibility through new technologies are founded,” added Van der Linden, referring to the “large number of sales and positive feedback related to the offering.”
The venture has been strongly supported by the Australian Catholic University as well by their Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn (Australia’s Capital Territory) and its Archbishop.
“It’s vital that we make the most of multimedia and the web to spread the Good News in a a way that speaks to all kinds of people in ways they haven’t heard before,” said Archbishop Coleridge.
“The world is growing smaller and more interconnected”, the Archbishop added, “so it’s important to be able to share the Gospel at the click of a mouse.”
The team at CatholicLIFE say this is only the beginning of a complete online learning management system to reflect their mandate to deliver advanced support, innovative ministry and formation tools for the faith-based community.
