Forward in Faith Australia, part of an Anglo-Catholic group that also has members in Britain and America, has voted to leave the Anglican Church. It is setting up a working group, guided by Melbourne Auxiliary Bishop Peter Elliott, on how best to move to Catholicism.
In Australia, FiF - Australia has about 200 members …
That’s it … 200?

It is so reported. Australia is not a hot bed of Anglo-Catholicism. Remember that FIF is an association of a selection of Anglo-Catholics, including some from the Traditional Anglican Communion, and is not simply the same as the TAC.

What is the status of the* Roman Catholic *church in Canada? Not very good, I think. There was a class action suit against the RCC because of the institutionalized child abuse. Whatever became of that?
I really don’t have an answer for you because this article just dealt with the decline in the Anglican church…The church might be in trouble in Canada …Canada is almost totally secular

However God is working there…blessed Br Andre is on the way to becoming canonized…I don’t read Canadian Newspapers , and I can’t even give yo a source for the article I read

I read so much stuff on line …This was just something I recently read…You could try googling it if you are interested

I am of the Grateful Dead generation. I need to listen to one song per year to satiate any nostalgia.
I said Motley Band! And I’m stickin’ to it! You are still obsessed with Tommy, Mick, Vince, and Nikki, aren’t ya! Motley Crue made a few good tunes. “Home Sweet Home” comes to mind! 😛

I’m a “Yes” fan. Talk about long songs! You could rebuild a 727 Transmission in a 70 Dodge Challenger, give birth, and run some errands before those songs are over! 😃 Not a lot of folks out there who have heard of “Yes.”

As for the part about a guy from Berkley/Bay Area being a Grateful Dead fan, I’m shocked man! Never saw that coming! Next thing you’ll tell me is that you recycle and pull for the Warriors! LOL

OK, this is not a question for “Catholic Press” as such :), but for anyone in general.

Is there anyplace on the net where this kind of information is being tabulated?

I see articles like this where one or another group has agreed to come under the Ordinariates, other articles showing segmental defections from the TAC and still other articles about turmoil in the C of E and ACNA (etc) but nothing showing the whole picture as it stands today.

Have any “Ordinaries” been appointed yet?
There is not a place where the numbers are being tabulated. Why? So far only FIF in Australia has voted. At this time TAC Dioceses throughout the world are getting ready to vote in Synod on the AC. The TAC will have a response by Easter. The ArchBishop wants to present the response to the Holy Father by then. It is after this that the Ordinaries will be choosen. It is hoped by June 2010. How many will come or go home?
Unknown until the votes are taken.

FIF-UK is sitting the fence at this time, though the actions of the Bishops of the CoE will make Catholic and Evangical minded Anglican comfortable with remaining. The supposed merger with the Methodist in England will be an interesting ingredient in the mix as FIF-UK will have to decide if they want to exchange a Bishop for a Bishopette.

FIF-USA is at this time firmly attached, as firm as anything inthe ACNA can be attached, to the ACNA. ACNA has it’s own problems, as does TEC and the Continuum.

I never thought there would be a flood of people from Anglicanism to Catholicism. Anglicanism has become very protestant in thinking and in many cases Calvinistic. Consider the response of the ACNA clergy to Met. Jonah’s call to stop ordaining women and to abandon Calvinism. Per my friends, calvinist and WO backers, there were snide comments, eyerolling and laughter.

There are many groups out there passing on misinformation and trying to steer the discuss in a manner that benefits their particular brand of theology etc.

Another thing to remember is that Anglicanism has been in chaos, real chaos, for decades if not centuries. It just now has started erupting into view as stranger and more radical (note non orthodox) beliefs and theology is being pushed. Anglican laity for themost part are confused. Very little real leadership from the Anglican Bishops in about 40 years. Into this morass of confusion will ride a Bishop or Bishops who will perport to have the answer or “cure” for the infection in Anglicanism. It does not work, Anglicanism splinters once again, fortresses are created and defended and Anglican fight. Most of Anglicanism is not, say again is not, in communion with each other. Most of the Communion is not in communion with the TEC. The Africans are threatening to leave the CoE, within the ACNA Bishops are in impaired communion with each other. And that leaves out the Continuers like GKC who themselves are not in communion with many other Anglicans. There are two Anglican Churches within 30 miles of me who are only in communion with 4, yes 4, other individual Anglican parishes throughout the world. And one only in communion with itself! Last I check, there are about 65 various flavors of Anglicanism in the USA alone. Some 1 parish to those as large as the ACNA/TEC.

For my Catholic brethern, now do you understand why there will not be a flood at first. How do you organize this chaos? Anglicans will be watching those Anglicans who go first and watch how the Catholics receive them. Will it be like the past or better? I believe the Holy Father will make it better.

There’s a Tom Lehrer song in this, just struggling to get out.

Fr. Mark has inadvertently described the process of herding cats. Like cats, Anglicans are creatures of habit, stubborn, independent, and picky. How much does B16, himself a cat lover, understand about this peculiar brand of feline?

Pulling for the Warriors is the ultimate penance and you’re already on the road to salvation through offering up your suffering! That is the most disfunctional, screwed-up, unsuccessful organization. I swear they drive me nuts!! I pull for the SF Giants and that’s tough enough, taking on the Warriors would kill me! lol…I sure love the Warrior fans, though, so faithful to that travesty!
Yes, both.

It’s odd that dissenting Anglicans want to be so institutional. Most of the Roman Catholics I know disagree with their own church and with each other. All support contraception; some support various forms of abortion choice; most support women entering the priesthood, and various types of assisted reproduction. All don’t believe in hell. All of the Roman Catholics I know could form their own individual churches if they wanted to.

Anode, Maybe its the parish I go to but I don’t see that. Oh don’t get me wrong I do have reservations about some Doctrines, but I just take it on faith and go to church. I ask questions and when I have doubt I pray. Keep in mind I’m only a catachumen but I still intend to join the Catholic church. Your right in some respects though some people I work with are lapsed catholics that fell away from the faith over a variety of issues though most was over money. I have reminded a few that even if they’ve stopped going their still catholic and are always welcome back.

Where do you live, Anode, Berkley, Hayward or San Francisco in Heigh Ashbury? Of all the hundreds of Catholics I know, I only know one who is for all that nonsense. She’s a divorce liberal who hates men. Kinda predisposed! I think you’re hangin’ out with some real ‘progressive lefties’ because Catholics in my area are quite the opposite. I’m considered left of center compared to many I know!

And the point isn’t what some unfaithful, liberal Catholics believe, it’s what the Church as a body teaches and defends as truth. You point out that most of these folks ‘could’ form their own church. I think the most important word is ‘could.’ They could, but notice they don’t! Even in their liberal hearts they must have some respect for the authority of the magesterium. Either that or they don’t want to break off and form their own group because they’d have nothing to whine about! 😛

Just an update.

The TAC House of Bishops in the USA have this day assembled in Orlando, Florida along with representatives of FIF-UK and Anglican Use/Pastoral Provision for the purpose of discussing and finalizing their response to the Anglican Constitution.

Let us add these Bishops to our daily prayers.

FIF-UK (Bishop of Ebbsfleet) has held a day of prayer (Chair of St Peter) concerning the Anglican Constitution. From the letter I read from one who was in attendance, the traditionalist are finally seeing the writing on the wall. Many are ready to begin the journey, the resistence to “re-ordination” is evaporating, leaving concerns about practical and financial considerations.

“As to the general mood in the Cof E who knows. I am sure that the vociferous nature of the Synod is not the universal feeling, but their actions will determine our future.” This quote is the mood of the meeting. I believe the general assembly for the CoE is this July?
We will see what happens then.

There is now a website called Friends of the Ordinariate set up for Anglicans in the Churches of England, Wales, Ireland and the Scottish Episcopal Church who are interested in the Anglican Consitution. It open at this time only to members of those churches and the TAC in the UK and Catholics in the UK. Since I am not a member nor located in the UK, I have no further details.

Fr.Mark

I just wonder why some of these folks are so opposed to re-ordination? Big deal I say? If there is ANY doubt, a re-ordination would cast it away and replace it with certitude. Seeing a Roman Catholic ordination is an awesome thing and I’m afraid if I were an Anglican priest it would only sweeten the pot of my conversion, not make me feel any ill will. Better to be safe than sorry.

I’m watching to see if it will be sub conditione..

GKC

Isn’t that what I said? Sub conditione is when the consecrators think there might be doubt as to form, intention, or something in the consecration of the recipient, right? So they do it again to be safe. I just didn’t bust out the Latin like some people! 😃

I agree gurney. I was ordained in the SBC. The Anglican Church just did not recieve me and give me a parish. They required me to be ordained by an Anglican Bishop. I had to go through confirmation, layreader, chalicebearer, Deacon and then Priest. I submitted so the Anglicans would be sure and not have any doubt. Ditto (little Rush lingo for ya!😃 I know just how close you two are:eek:) for the Roman Catholics. The cure of souls is at stake, so everything must be in order to remove any doubt.

Why are some opposed to ordination or re-ordination? As I talk with those who are opposed, they truly believe they have valid orders on par with the Catholics and Orthodox. They are slightly miffed that even though Anglicans recognize Catholic and Orthodox orders and sacraments, the Catholics and Orthodox do not recognize theirs. Basically, we are playing nice why won’t they. They seem unable to understand the Catholic/Orthodox position. I believe my orders are valid, but do understand the Catholic position. I can not fault them, especially with everything going on in the last 40 years in Anglicanism. I will submit, if allowed, to remove any doubt about me.

Fr.Mark

You rascal. I’m a Bill O’Reilley moderate Repub, you know that! I do listen to Hannity and I like Mark Stein, the stand-in for Rush much more than Limbaugh anyday! 😛
