Austrian Cardinal Cracks Down on Rebel Priests

The Austrian Cardinal Archbishop of Vienna has told the priests under him who have signed a “Call to Disobedience” that they cannot serve in administrative posts, though they can remain pastors. These priest have been campaigning for such things as ordination for women and giving communion to Protestants.

I really don’t understand this. Not at all. Today is the feast of the blessed princes of the Apostles - Peter and Paul… St. Paul is so clear in Scripture, again and again, how dangerous heresy is…how urgent it is that the Body of Christ purge it from it ranks… he commanded St. Titus, one of the first bishops of the Church, to “rebuke with authority” (see Titus 2:15) or the good of souls…

These priests are OPEN heretics. Maybe my understanding of canon law is faulty, but by this open act of heresy, haven’t they excommunicated themselves latae sententiae? How can excommunicated priests function as pastors?

I am glad to hear this. When a priest is ordained, he agrees to be obedient to his superiors. These rebel priests need to be cracked down upon. Hopefully they will repent and become obedient again.

Cardinal Schoenborn has been exceptionally patient with these priests, perhaps too patient, to the extent that Ive even heard mutterings that he must be secretly in league with them.

It is good to see some form of sanctions finally being introduced by the Cardinal, given discussion and pleas have come to nothing. Its also good to see that these are having at least some effect, as per the report.

The Church must be wary of being too tolerant with dissenters. Previous decades worth of tolerance is what has led to serious damage to the faith in places, such as the current situation with certain “nuns” in the USA.

Ultimately, if people want married priests, female priests, tolerance of abortion etc, these are already available elsewhere.

I feel those who undermine the Catholic Church with criticism show a fundamental lack of integrity, given they do not leave to join other Churches where their non-Orthodox views are mainstream. They should have the courage of their apparent convictions, instead of remaining to disrupt the faithful.

But how can Satan take down the Church (his ultimate goal) if they leave?? I’m noticing that the more vocal the dissenters become, the more good news we hear on the forefront in terms of returning to a more sane (and holy) period. Let them rave…I think their time is running out.
